Infection Control Practices for Vascular Access Management in Hemodialysis: Results From a Nationwide Survey of Japanese National University Hospitals

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Bloodstream infections due to repeated vascular access (VA) puncture and circuit connections remain major concerns in hemodialysis. Therefore, we examined current practices for glove, disinfectant, and personal protective equipment (PPE) use according to VA type in national university hospitals in Japan.

Identification of Landslide-Prone Areas Using the Horizontal to Vertical Spectral Ratio (HVSR) Method and the GIS Approach in Semakai District, Tanggamus Regency, Lampung Province

open access: yesJurnal Fisika Flux, 2023
Landslides are one of the natural disasters that frequently occur in Indonesia and can result in loss of life, property, and environmental damage. Semaka Subdistrict, Tanggamus Regency, Lampung Province, is located in a landslide-prone area.

Trabeculectomy: Effect of varying surgical site [PDF]

open access: yesEye, 1993
Trabeculectomy reduces intraocular pressure by fistula formation into a subconjunctival bleb. The operation site traditionally has been at the superior corneo-scleral junction with a failure rate of 10-30%. The causes of trabeculectomy failure can be broadly classified into intraocular, scleral and extraocular.

Experience With Performing Rheocarna Therapy via the Single‐Needle Method for Treatment of Chronic Limb‐Threatening Ischemia

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction This study investigated the safety and efficacy of single‐needle Rheocarna therapy for chronic limb‐threatening ischemia (CLTI) with wounds. Methods Six patients with CLTI involving ulcers unresponsive to revascularization underwent single‐needle Rheocarna treatment.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Evaluation of S1222a Source Parameters Based on Site Effect Simulation and Implication for the Event Origin

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2023
Estimating the rupture process of a quake constrains the tectonic setting of its source region. In terrestrial seismology, the rupture process can be described with a classical ω2 model.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Broadband waveforms and site effects at a borehole seismometer in the Po alluvial basin (Italy)

open access: yesAnnals of Geophysics, 2001
Broadband seismograms recorded at a borehole three-component (high dynamic range) seismic station in the Po Valley (Northern Italy) were analyzed to study the velocity structure of the shallow sedimentary layers as well as the local site effects in soft ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

The direct boundary element method: 2D site effects assessment on laterally varying layered media (methodology)

open access: yes, 2004
The Direct Boundary Element Method (DBEM) is presented to solve the elastodynamic field equations in 2D, and a complete comprehensive implementation is given. The DBEM is a useful approach to obtain reliable numerical estimates of site effects on seismic
