A Site Amplification Model for Crustal Earthquakes
A global dataset which is composed of more than 20,000 records is used to develop an empirical nonlinear soil amplification model for crustal earthquakes. The model also includes the deep soil effect. The soil nonlinearity is formulated in terms of input

Charge transfer electrostatic model of compositional order in perovskite alloys
We introduce an electrostatic model including charge transfer, which is shown to account for the observed B-site ordering in Pb-based perovskite alloys. The model allows charge transfer between A-sites and is a generalization of Bellaiche and Vanderbilt ...

Development of a site-conditions map for the Campania-Lucania region (southern Apennines, Italy)
Having a reliable site-conditions estimate is an important step to analyze and predict earthquake ground motions. To provide this information for the Campania-Lucania region (southern Apennines, Italy), and in the framework of a collaboration with the ...

Soil biological quality in short- and long-term field trials with conventional and organic fertility input types [PDF]
Soils of the DOK trial and three other field trials with manure input were analysed for effects on soil biology. While long-term effects indicate a new steady state at the DOK trial site, differences at the other field trials suggest that fresh manure at

Social Networks Sites : Usage and Effects
The aim of this paper is to explore the students’ use of social networks sites (SNSs) and its effects on students’ achievement. A questionnaire using a Liker type scale was distributed to a sample of 120 undergraduate students who participated in the study. The results show that students use SNSs for social matters more than for academic purposes.

Vs30 Derived from Geology: An Attempt in the Province of Quebec, Canada
The influence of local site conditions is important when assessing the distribution of building damage and seismic risk. The average shear-wave velocity of the top 30 m of soil, Vs30, is one of the most commonly used parameters to characterize site ...
