PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Acoustic telemetry system as a novel approach for evaluating the effective attraction of fish to artificial reefs

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2023
Due to there being a lack of suitable approaches for evaluating the effectiveness of artificial reefs, two experiments were designed to examine the feasibility of acoustic telemetry, a rapidly developing method for tracking aquatic animals.

Site fidelity and movement patterns of reef manta rays (Mobula alfredi: Mobulidae) using passive acoustic telemetry in northern Raja Ampat, Indonesia

open access: yes, 2018
Though extremely valuable to the local marine tourism industry, there is a dearth of published information on the ecology and population dynamics of reef manta rays (Mobula alfredi) in Raja Ampat, West Papua, Indonesia.

dUTPase is essential in zebrafish development and possesses several single‐nucleotide variants with pronounced structural and functional consequences

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
dUTPases are involved in balancing the appropriate nucleotide pools. We showed that dUTPase is essential for normal development in zebrafish. The different zebrafish genomes contain several single‐nucleotide variations (SNPs) of the dut gene. One of the dUTPase variants displayed drastically lower protein stability and catalytic efficiency as compared ...

Preliminary Studies on Site Fidelity, Residence Index, and Population Size of Irrawaddy Dolphins in West Penang, Malaysia

open access: yesOceans, 2023
The Irrawaddy dolphin is found in the coastal and estuarine areas of West Penang, Malaysia. Studies were conducted to estimate the site fidelity, residence index, and population size of Irrawaddy dolphins in West Penang. Photo-identification studies were

Entanglement entropy and fidelity susceptibility in the one-dimensional spin-1 XXZ chains with alternating single-site anisotropy

open access: yes, 2015
We study the fidelity susceptibility in an antiferromagnetic spin-1 XXZ chain numerically. By using the density-matrix renormalization group method, the effects of the alternating single-site anisotropy $D$ on fidelity susceptibility are investigated ...

Testing A Personalized Approach to Chronic Low Back Pain: A Randomized Controlled Trial in Older Veterans

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective We aimed to test the efficacy of personalized treatment of older Veterans with chronic low back pain (CLBP) delivered by Aging Back Clinics (ABC) as compared with usual care (UC). Methods Two hundred ninety‐nine Veterans age 65‐89 with CLBP from 3 VA medical centers underwent baseline testing, randomization to ABC or UC and 12 months follow ...

The Influence of Intrinsic Factors and Release Trials on Site Fidelity and Dispersal of Reintroduced Golden Parakeets (Guaruba guarouba, Aves, Psittacidae)

open access: yesDiversity
Reintroducing threatened fauna has been established as a valuable conservation practice despite the obstacles that such projects still face. In avian reintroductions, elevated dispersal of released individuals is one of the main factors preventing the ...

Quantum Monte Carlo simulations of fidelity at magnetic quantum phase transitions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
When a system undergoes a quantum phase transition, the ground-state wave-function shows a change of nature, which can be monitored using the fidelity concept.
