Suppressed dependence of polarization on epitaxial strain in highly polar ferroelectrics

open access: yes, 2007
A combined experimental and computational investigation of coupling between polarization and epitaxial strain in highly polar ferroelectric PbZr_0.2Ti_0.8O_3 (PZT) thin films is reported.

Numerical analysis of seismic wave amplification in Nice (France) and comparisons with experiments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
The analysis of site effects is very important since the amplification of seismic motion in some specific areas can be very strong. In this paper, the site considered is located in the centre of Nice on the French Riviera.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Dynamics of the quantum dimer model on the triangular lattice: Soft modes and local resonating valence-bond correlations

open access: yes, 2006
We report on an exhaustive investigation of the dynamical dimer-dimer correlations in imaginary time for the quantum dimer model on the triangular lattice using the Green's function Monte Carlo method.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Evaluation of a training program using the SBAR communication tool for caregivers managing acute respiratory distress in lung cancer patients: A pilot randomized controlled trial protocol

open access: yesInternet Interventions
Background: Family-based caregivers are increasingly important in the management of non-hospitalized lung cancer patients. However, lack of training can negatively impact care including diagnostic errors that can lead to delays in providing appropriate ...

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These
