Apoplast as the site of response to environmental signals
Journal of Plant Research, 1998When the life cycle of plants is influenced by various environmental signals, the mechanical properties of the cell wall are greatly changed. These signals also modify the levels and structure of the cell wall constituents and such modifications are supposed to be the cause of the changes in the wall mechanical properties.

Seismic Response of Liquefaction Sites
Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering, 1997The authors of this technical paper focus on the seismic response of liquefaction sites by evaluating the transient shear strains and strong-motion characteristics at Treasure Island during the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. The strain levels are used to model soil and buried pipeline deformations observed in the Marina District of San Francisco during ...

Just a few short years ago, smartphones and tablets didn’t exist, yet here we are today living in a world where analysts predict that web traffic from these devices will surpass that of laptops and desktops in 2014. We live in a mobile world, and as Drupal site builders, it’s important to address the growing usage of smartphones and tablets and begin ...

In this report, a review of the site response assessment methhodologies in current use for engineering oriented investigations will be made. Emphasis will be on the treatments involving visco-elastic and non-linear material behavior. Simple applications based on SH-wave fields will be covered to illustrate the use of these methodologies.

Public Response to Prison Siting
Criminal Justice and Behavior, 2005In recent decades, prison populations and prison construction both have increased dramatically bringing issues related to prison siting to the forefront. Although the Not in My Backyard (NIMBY) syndrome often is discussed in prison literature, relatively little empirical research has been devoted to this topic.

Designing a Responsive Web Site
2013Any seasoned web professional knows that planning prior to implementation is key to the success of any project. Planning a web site project is a critical task and possibly the most important. It helps us gain focus and clarity by defining objectives for the project, and forces us to solidify the overall goals for what the stakeholder hopes to achieve ...

An International Response to Site Contamination
2012This chapter examines the feasibility of developing an international instrument on site contamination, whether in binding or non-binding form. It discusses the notion of ‘common concern’ and similar concepts, with reference to site contamination and other environmental issues.
