Resistance of packaging against infestation by Sitophilus zeamais
International Journal of Food Science & Technology, 2020SummaryThe results of infestation by maize weevil, Sitophilus zeamais (Coleoptera, Curculionidae), in different packaging filled with pasta are presented in this research. Three different types of packaging were used, that is, two paper tubes (one novel, laminated with bio‐based polyethylene and one without lamination) and commercial polypropylene ...

Transcriptomic analysis of Sitophilus zeamais in response to limonene fumigation
Pest Management Science, 2022AbstractBACKGROUNDFrequent application of chemical fumigants has contributed to the development of resistance in stored‐product pests. Essential oils provide a novel and environmentally friendly alternative to conventional chemical pesticides. In this work, the fumigant activity of Taxodium ‘zhongshansha’ essential oil (TZEO) and main active components

Transcriptomic alterations in Sitophilus zeamais in response to allyl isothiocyanate fumigation
Pesticide Biochemistry and Physiology, 2017To study the fumigation mechanisms of Allyl isothiocyanate (AITC) a promising biorational alternative to present fumigants (phosphine and methyl bromide), and provide theoretical basis for its further development in the control of stored grain pests, this research presents a transcriptome analysis of Sitophilus zeamais fumigated with AITC at the ...

Midgut morphophysiology in Sitophilus zeamais Motschulsky, 1855 (Coleoptera: Curculionidae)
Micron, 2013Sitophilus zeamais is one of the most aggressive pests of stored grains, causing a significant decrease in the nutritional quality of the grains and major losses in economic trade. The foraging capacity of this pest is assigned to its highly efficient digestive system.

Properties of amylases from midguts of larvae of Sitophilus zeamais and Sitophilus granarius
Insect Biochemistry, 1983Abstract Properties of amylases in homogenates of midguts of larvae of the granary weevil, Sitophilus granarius (L.), and maize weevil, Sitophilus zeamais Motchulsky, were studied. Amylases from both species were active in mildly acid buffers. The pH optima were 4.75 for S. zeamais and 5.0 for S. granarius.

Abstract This study reports the efficacy of using CO2 against Sitophilus zeamais and Sitophilus oryzae as an alternative treatment to fumigation for rice stored in a rice mill in Portugal. The trials were conducted in a silo containing 40 tonnes of polished rice and in four hermetic big bags of 1 tonne capacity; two with paddy and two with polished ...
