Resistance of maize cultivars to Sitophilus zeamais (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) [PDF]

open access: yesArquivos do Instituto Biológico, 2018
ABSTRACT: Five Zea mays cultivars (BRS Caatingueiro, BRS Gorutuba, BRS Sertanejo, BRS Asa Branca and BR 106) were evaluated considering their effect on the nutrition of the maize weevil Sitophilus zeamais, by analysis of total protein in adult fed with these cultivars and for the presence of lectins and trypsin inhibitors in grains.

Effects of 50°C temperature on Sitophilus granarius (L.), Sitophilus oryzae (L.) and Sitophilus zeamais (Motsch.)

open access: yesPesticidi i fitomedicina, 2011
Adults of laboratory populations of granary weevil (S. granarius), rice weevil (S. oryzae) and maize weevil (S. zeamais) were exposed at the temperature of 50?C to determine lethal time (parameters LT20, LT50 and LT99) and progeny production/reduction in F1 generation at mentioned temperature.

The Role of Fumonisins in the Biological Interaction between Fusarium verticillioides and Sitophilus zeamais

open access: yesJournal of Chemical Ecology, 2020
The aim of the current study was to investigate the entomopathogenic capacity of the mold Fusarium verticillioides and the effect of its mycotoxins fumonisins, on the grain beetle Sitophilus zeamais. We evaluated the capacity of this fungus to infect live insects, the antifungal activity of constituents of the insect's epicuticle, and the effect of a ...

Corn physicochemical properties affect Sitophilus zeamais losses

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Biology
Abstract The maize weevil, Sitophilus zeamais Motschulsky, 1885 (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), is one of the primary insect pests affecting maize in Brazil. Due to the limited availability of active compounds for insect control, there is a pressing need to explore alternative sources of resistance, potentially harboring genetic reservoirs for material ...

Route‐Dependent Toxicity and Ecological Selectivity of Melaleuca alternifolia Essential Oil in Apis mellifera Linnaeus, 1758 (Hymenoptera: Apidae)

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The intensification of agricultural practices has led to an increase in the use of insecticides, raising concerns about the exposure of non‐target organisms, particularly pollinators. In this context, plant‐derived essential oils have been proposed as environmentally friendlier alternatives due to their low persistence; however, their ...

Histomorphology Structure of the Gastric Caecum, Midgut, and Malpighian Tubules in Adult Flatheaded Pine Borer Chalcophora mariana (Linnaeus, 1758) (Coleoptera: Buprestidae)

open access: yesActa Zoologica, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The pine weevil is one of the largest species in the jewel beetle (Buprestidae) family found in Central Europe and Turkey. Chalcophora mariana is generally considered a secondary guest and primarily develops in weakened, decaying, or recently dead pine trees.
