Growth, sexual maturity and sexual dimorphism of Aegla georginae (Decapoda: Anomura: Aeglidae) in a tributary of the Ibicuí River in southern Brazil

open access: yesZoologia (Curitiba)
This study aimed to estimate the growth and size at the onset of sexual maturity in a population of Aegla georginae . Specimens were sampled from November 2007 to October 2008 in the Perau Creek (Ibicuí-Mirim sub-basin; Uruguay River basin). All captured

Firms' Growth, Size and Age: A Nonparametric Approach

open access: yesReview of Industrial Organization, 2000
This paper offers empirical evidence of firm failure rates as well as the mean of the distribution of realized growth rates, distinguishing between the sample of non-failing firms and the sample of all firms, failing and non-failing. Attention is directed at identifying a set of characteristics, in particular the size and age of firms, systematically ...

Genetic and phenotypic parameters of age at first mating, litter size and animal size in Finnish mink

open access: yesAnimal, 2010
Mink skin size in Finland, as well as in other countries, has increased considerably during last decade. However, there are signs that selection for large body size has a negative impact on litter size (LS) and also for survival of kits. Therefore, it is

Family Size and the Age at Infancy-Childhood Transition Determine a Child’s Compromised Growth in Large Families

open access: yesFrontiers in Pediatrics, 2022
BackgroundData on growth of Israeli school children show that children from Jewish ultra-orthodox Haredi and Bedouin Arab families have a higher prevalence of stature below the 3rd percentile.

Sizing of Aging Bull Spermatozoa with an Electronic Counter

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 1969
Abstract Cell size was evaluated as a criterion of the functional state of spermatozoa. Packed cell volume of 13 samples of bull semen stored at room temperature for 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 and 11.5 hours averaged 8.7, 10.6, 11.2, 12.0, 12.1, and 12.2%. Corresponding mean window values obtained with a Coulter Counter were 12.3, 14.3, 15.6, 16.0, 16.1, and 15.9.

Individual and Population Level Variation in the Reproductive Potential of Deep-Sea Corals From Different Regions Within the Gulf of Maine

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2019
Deep-sea corals are of conservation concern in the North Atlantic due to prolonged disturbances associated with the exploitation of natural resources and a changing environment.

A Quantitative Analysis of Growth and Size Regulation in Manduca sexta: The Physiological Basis of Variation in Size and Age at Metamorphosis. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Body size and development time are important life history traits because they are often highly correlated with fitness. Although the developmental mechanisms that control growth have been well studied, the mechanisms that control how a species ...

Effects of Early Thermal Environment on Growth, Age at Maturity, and Sexual Size Dimorphism in Arctic Charr

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2022
The effects of early thermal environment on growth, age at maturity, and sexual size dimorphism in Arctic charr (Salvelinus alpinus) are investigated. This study is a 654-day long rearing trial split into two sequential experimental phases termed EP1 and

European Standard Clinical Practice Guideline and EXPeRT Recommendations for the Diagnosis and Management of Gastroenteropancreatic Neuroendocrine Neoplasms in Children and Adolescents

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Pediatric gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (GEP‐NENs) are extremely rare and clinically heterogeneous. Management has largely been extrapolated from adult practice. This European Standard Clinical Practice Guideline (ESCP), developed by the EXPeRT network in collaboration with adult NEN experts, provides (adult) evidence ...

Larval size and age affect colonization in a marine invertebrate [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Biology, 2014
The relationship between offspring size and performance determines the optimal trade-off between producing many small offspring or fewer large offspring and the existence of this relationship has become a central tenet of life-history theory. For organisms with multiple life-history stages, the relationship between offspring size and performance is ...
