PurposeAmerican Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) (Report 204) introduced the size‐specific dose estimate (SSDE) for the average dose to the center of a fixed‐mA scan. International standards establish a method that CT manufacturers and radiation dose index monitoring software may use to calculate SSDE(z) at longitudinal positions of scans ...

Entrance skin dosimetry and size-specific dose estimate from pediatric chest CTA [PDF]
BackgroundSize-specific dose estimate (SSDE), which corrects CT dose index (CTDI) for body diameter and is a better measure of organ dose than is CTDI, has not yet been validated in vivo.ObjectiveThe purpose was to determine the correlation between SSDE ...

SIZE-SPECIFIC DOSE ESTIMATES IN PEDIATRIC BRAIN CT IN RELATION TO AGE AND WEIGHT
Radiation Protection Dosimetry, 2023Abstract The size-specific dose estimate (SSDE) is used for radiation dose management in computed tomography (CT) and represents patient’s absorbed dose more accurately than volume CT dose index. The relationship between SSDE and age or weight was investigated using 980 pediatric brain CT scans.

Automated size-specific dose estimates using deep learning image processing
Medical Image Analysis, 2021An automated vendor-independent system for dose monitoring in computed tomography (CT) medical examinations involving ionizing radiation is presented in this paper. The system provides precise size-specific dose estimates (SSDE) following the American Association of Physicists in Medicine regulations. Our dose management can operate on incomplete DICOM

Size-specific dose estimates for various weighting factors of CTDI equation
Physical and Engineering Sciences in Medicine, 2019Size-specific dose estimate (SSDE) was proposed by the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) Task Group 204 to consider the effect of patient size in the x-ray CT dose estimation. Size correction factors to calculate SSDE were derived based on the conventional weighted CT dose index (CTDIw) equation.
