Design practice for the stern hull form of a twin-skeg ship
Journal of Marine Science and Technology, 2009Hydrodynamic standards have been derived for the improvement of propulsive performance of twin-skeg hull forms. Three important physical observations were used in the optimization of design practice for the stern hull form of twin-skeg ships: limiting streamline pattern on the inner and outer skeg surface of a stern skeg, the balance between the flow ...

A method for determining the free-stream characteristics of ship skeg-rudders
International Shipbuilding Progress, 1985A modified lifting line theory is developed which supports the form of skeg-rudder experimental free-stream data obtained previously. It is demonstrated that satisfactory predictions of the form of the spanwise loadings for different skeg and rudder angles can be made using lifting line theory with the effect of the skeg being incorporated as local ...

2023
The geophysical survey consisted of a detailed gradiometer survey of as much of the development area as was suitable, coming to approximately 6.5 hectares. The survey was undertaken in a series of 30m grids across the site. The survey has identified very little of archaeological interest.

The influence of skegs on course stability of a barge with a different configuration
Ocean Engineering, 2015Abstract In a water tank experiment, it was found that slewing motions differ according to the bow shape of a barge. Due attention should be paid to the differing effects of skegs in accordance with the bow shape, and it is necessary to estimate the course stability of each barge by identifying the hydrodynamic forces acting on it.

Influence of Skeg on Ship Manoeuvrability at High and Low Speeds
2020This paper shows how the length of the central skeg influences the manoeuvrability of passenger vessels, both at high and low speeds. The impact of the skeg is quantified and discussed based on the results of manoeuvring model tests and CFD calculations for two test-cases, a ferry and a yacht.

We really are open all hours in Skegness!
Nursing Standard, 1994The article on health care at a Butlin's centre (Clinical, May 25) refers to Skegness Hospital, stating 'there is a smaller hospital eight minutes away which opens during office hours'. In fact the Casualty Department is open 24 hours a clay, seven days a week. You can imagine the response from the nursing staff on reading this!

Skegness TEC, Wainfleet Road, Lincolnshire: Archaeological Evaluation Report
2023Evaluation by trial-trenching The archaeological features recorded in Trench 4 were a ditch and a pit or ditch terminal. They are undated but their alignment suggests a pre-medieval date. Considering their form and the lack of artefacts and ecofacts, it is therefore likely that the remains of a pre-medieval field system exists on the Site.

Pressure-distribution investigation of a semi-balanced ship skeg-rudder [PDF]
The results of free stream wind tunnel experiments on a semi-balanced ship skeg-rudder are presented. Tests were carried out to derive the distribution of pressures over the rudder; these tests form an extension to earlier force measurements which were the subject of separate reports. The chordwise distributions of pressure indicate the regions of ...
