The Influence of Fluctuating Light on the Growth and Photosynthesis of Skeletonema Costatum
1992The marine diatom Skeletonema costatum was grown in two light-limited continuous cultures with a 8h light:16h dark period. Although the total amount of light energy received by both cultures was the same, the way in which they received it was different. Culture 1 received one sinusoidal cycle (with the maximum 4h after the onset of light).

Biological control of Vibrio alginolyticus in Skeletonema costatum (Bacillariophyceae) cultures
Aquacultural Engineering, 1998A bacterial strain (SK-05), selected for its active growth in organic-poor substrates and inoculated in a Skeletonema costatum culture in late exponential growth, prevented the establishment of Vibrio alginolyticus, purposely introduced into the diatom culture. Since SK-05 has no bacteriostatic or antibiotic activity against V.

Cultivation of diatom skeletonema costatum in airlift photobioreactor
This work aimed to examine the performance of 3 L airlift photobioreactor system on the cultivation of Skeletonema costatum compared to that in bubble column. Firstly, the experiment was set out to determine appropriate medium for Skeletonema costatum where it became apparent that the standard F/2 medium (Guillard's medium) could only yield the best ...openaire +1 more source
Competitive interaction between Ditylum Brightwellii and Skeletonema Costatum by toxic metabolites
Netherlands Journal of Sea Research, 1989Abstract Comparative growth experiments were carried out in order to examine the role of toxic metabolites in the competition between two marine diatom species. Ditylum brightwellii and Skeletonema costatum exhibited mutual inhibition and auto-inhibition. Charcoal filtration did not entirely remove the toxicity.
