Leptin and the skeleton [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Endocrinology, 2002
Leptin is a 167 amino acid hormonal protein product of the obesity gene that has been widely studied since its discovery by Zang et al . (1994). Initially described as being involved with satiety and energy balance, leptin was proposed to be the anti-obesity factor involved in a feedback loop from the adipocyte to the hypothalamus (Zang et al ., 1994).

Branch Identification and Junction Points Location for Apple Trees Based on Deep Learning

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2022
Branch identification is key to the robotic pruning system for apple trees. High identification accuracy and the positioning of junction points between branch and trunk are important prerequisites for pruning with a robotic arm.

Four Severity Levels for Grading the Tortuosity of a Retinal Fundus Image

open access: yesJournal of Imaging, 2022
Hypertensive retinopathy severity classification is proportionally related to tortuosity severity grading. No tortuosity severity scale enables a computer-aided system to classify the tortuosity severity of a retinal image. This work aimed to introduce a

Computation of Thickness and Mechanical Properties of Interconnected Structures: Accuracy, Deviations, and Approaches for Correction

open access: yesFrontiers in Materials, 2019
Identifying local thickness information of fibrous or highly porous structures is challenging. The analysis of tomography data calls for computationally fast, robust, and accurate algorithms. This work systematically investigates systematic errors in the

Accuracy Assessment of Joint Angles Estimated from 2D and 3D Camera Measurements

open access: yesSensors, 2022
To automatically evaluate the ergonomics of workers, 3D skeletons are needed. Most ergonomic assessment methods, like REBA, are based on the different 3D joint angles.

A modified K3M thinning algorithm

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, 2016
The K3M thinning algorithm is a general method for image data reduction by skeletonization. It had proved its feasibility in most cases as a reliable and robust solution in typical applications of thinning, particularly in preprocessing for optical ...

Brain Tissue Evaluation Based on Skeleton Shape and Similarity Analysis between Hemispheres

open access: yesComputation, 2020
Background: The purpose of this article is to provide a new evaluation tool based on skeleton maps to assess the tumoral and non-tumoral regions of the 2D MRI in PD-weighted (proton density) and T2w (T2-weighted type) brain images.

Generating Digital Twins for Path-Planning of Autonomous Robots and Drones Using Constrained Homotopic Shrinking for 2D and 3D Environment Modeling

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
A digital twin describes the virtual representation of a real process. This twin is constantly updated with real data and can thus control and adapt the real model.

General Vectorization of Line Objects in Drawn Maps

open access: yesCommunications, 2009
Drawn maps consist of multiple object types. The most important are line objects which represent infrastructure. Attributes of these objects are essential for many tasks but in raster format they provide only low level information.
