An algorithm for the skew normalization of document image
[1990] Proceedings. 10th International Conference on Pattern Recognition, 2002An algorithm to normalize the skew of document images is proposed. The skew angle is detected in two stages. In the first stage, connected regions in an image are extracted and some feature parameters are extracted for each region. In the second stage, the Hough transform is calculated for the parameters, and the angle which gives the minimum of the ...

Smooth Test for Multivariate Skew-Normality
Proceedings of the 2019 3rd International Conference on Advances in Image Processing, 2019Based on the smooth test for uniformity on the surface of a unit sphere, a new test for multivariate skew-normality is presented. The asymptotic null distribution of the transformed sample is obtained, and a bootstrapping algorithm is given to estimate the p-value of the test statistic.

Discussion of ''The Skew-normal''
Scandinavian Journal of Statistics, 2005Department of Statistics, Texas A&M UniversityFirst, I would like to congratulate Professor Azzalini for an excellent overview paper on thetopic of the skew-normal distribution and its various extensions. This is a fast-growing area ofresearch that has been pioneered by Professor Azzalini’s seminal article on A class of dis-tributions which includes ...

AbstractThis chapter considers the univariate skew-normal distribution, a generalization of the normal that includes the normal as a special case. The most natural parametrization is non-standard. This is because the Fisher information matrix is then singular at the true parameter value when the true model is the normal special case. The log-likelihood

Bias-corrected Estimators of Scalar Skew Normal
Communications in Statistics - Simulation and Computation, 2016One problem of a skew normal model is the difficulty in estimating the shape parameter, for which the maximum likelihood estimate may be infinite when sample size is moderate. The existing estimators suffer from large bias even for moderate size samples.
