Skew‐symmetric distributions generated by the distribution function of the normal distribution [PDF]
AbstractIn this paper we study a general family of skew‐symmetric distributions which are generated by the cumulative distribution of the normal distribution. For some distributions, moments are computed which allows computing asymmetry and kurtosis coefficients.

Skew-symmetric distributions and Fisher information
Hallin and Ley (2012) investigate and fully characterize the Fisher singularity phenomenon in univariate and multivariate families of skew-symmetric distributions. This paper proposes a refined analysis of the (univariate) Fisher degeneracy problem, showing that it can be more or less severe, inducing n1/4 (“simple singularity”), n1/6 (“double ...

Robust Mixture Modeling Based on Two-Piece Scale Mixtures of Normal Family
In this paper, we examine the finite mixture (FM) model with a flexible class of two-piece distributions based on the scale mixtures of normal (TP-SMN) family components. This family allows the development of a robust estimation of FM models.

Likelihood Inference of Nonlinear Models Based on a Class of Flexible Skewed Distributions
This paper deals with the issue of the likelihood inference for nonlinear models with a flexible skew-t-normal (FSTN) distribution, which is proposed within a general framework of flexible skew-symmetric (FSS) distributions by combining with skew-t ...

Regression analysis is a technique widely used in different areas of human knowledge, with distinct distributions for the error term. It is the case, however, that regression models with the error term following a bimodal distribution are not common in ...

The Skew-Normal Distribution in SPC
Modeling real data sets, even when we have some potential (as)symmetric models for the underlying data distribution, is always a very difficult task due to some uncontrollable perturbation factors.

The Skew-Symmetric-Laplace-Uniform Distribution
The Laplace distribution is popular in the fields of economics and finance; however, empirical data often exhibit asymmetry and boundedness on one side of the support, features that the Laplace distribution fails to capture. To address this limitation, we propose a new family of skewed distributions using the skewing mechanism of ...

Gravity‐Dependent Modulation of Downbeat Nystagmus: Insights From Velocity‐Storage Dysfunction
ABSTRACT Objective Downbeat nystagmus varies with head position, a phenomenon termed gravity‐dependent modulation. We aimed to clarify its mechanism using a velocity‐storage model. Methods In 10 patients with downbeat nystagmus due to cerebellar disorders, we recorded eye movements at different pitch‐ and roll‐axis head positions.

CT‐based finite element simulations combined with in situ X‐ray computed tomography are used to analyze insert pull‐out in nickel‐coated polymer foams. Despite variations in material parameters, deformation consistently concentrates within a narrow annular region around the insert.
