Construction and Applications of a Composite Model Based on Skew-Normal and Skew-t Distributions

open access: yesEconometrics
Financial return distributions often exhibit central asymmetry and heavy-tailed extremes, challenging standard parametric models. We propose a novel composite distribution integrating a skew-normal center with skew-t tails, partitioning the support into ...

Applications of Skew Models Using Generalized Logistic Distribution

open access: yesAxioms, 2016
We use the skew distribution generation procedure proposed by Azzalini [Scand. J. Stat., 1985, 12, 171–178] to create three new probability distribution functions.

Pharmacological chromatin remodeling enhances response to estrogen therapy in ER+ breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Estrogen therapy elicits clinical benefit in ~ 30% of patients with endocrine‐resistant estrogen receptor (ER)‐positive breast cancer. Based on findings that ER transcriptional activation underlies response to estrogen therapy, we tested the effects of epigenetic dysregulation via pharmacological inhibition of histone deacetylases (HDACi).

Applying regression models with skew-normal errors to the height of bedding plants of Stevia rebaudiana (Bert) Bertoni

open access: yesActa Scientiarum: Technology, 2014
The experiment had the objective of fitting regression models to data of the height of the bedding plants cultivated in three multicellular Styrofoam trays with three different cell volumes.

A Prospective Study of Individuals at Risk of Multiple Sclerosis Informs the Design of Primary Prevention Studies

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective In multiple sclerosis, the optimal time for deploying a therapeutic intervention is before the central nervous system is damaged; given the success of trials treating the earliest stage of MS, the radiologically isolated syndrome, developing primary prevention strategies is an important next challenge.

The Impact of Renewable Energy Tax Incentives on Electricity Pricing in Texas

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
Texas has abundant natural resources, making it a good place for renewable energy facilities to build. Unfortunately, property taxes are the highest tax on an incoming renewable energy facility in the state.

Innate Immune Reprogramming Mediated by Endogenous Retroelement Dysregulation Drives Multiple Sclerosis Progression

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
Epigenetic reprogramming in hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) and downstream myeloid cells, mediated by H3.3 downregulation and endogenous retroelement (ERE) overexpression, contributes to the progression of multiple sclerosis (MS). ABSTRACT Background Skewed myelopoiesis in the bone marrow has been identified as a key driver of multiple ...

Sex Representation in US Stroke Clinical Trials: A Decade of Trends and Challenges

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Stroke remains a major cause of disability and mortality in the US, with significant sex‐based disparities, and females remain underrepresented in stroke clinical trials. We aimed to examine sex representation in US‐based stroke clinical trials, identify trial characteristics associated with higher female enrollment (≥ 50%), and ...

Modeling Insurance Claim Distribution via Mixture Distribution and Copula [PDF]

open access: yesتحقیقات مالی, 2017
This paper analyses whether joint probability distribution function of losses due to different exposures covered under the same policy could be modeled in an appropriate manner via mixture distribution proposed and copula concept.

Skewed t -Distribution for Hyperspectral Anomaly Detection Based on Autoencoder

open access: yesIEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters, 2022
We propose multivariate skewed t-distribution (MVSkt) for hyperspectral anomaly detection (AD). The proposed distribution model is able to increase the detection performance of autoencoder (AE)-based anomaly detectors. In the proposed method, the reconstruction error of a deep AE is modeled with a skewed t-distribution.
