Dietary Protein Intake and Peritoneal Protein Losses in Peritoneal Dialysis Patients

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients lose protein in their waste dialysate, potentially increasing their risk for malnutrition. We wished to determine whether there was any association between losses and dietary protein intake (DPI). Methods DPI was assessed from 24‐h dietary recall using Nutrics software.

Simplifying the Diagnosis of Vertical Diplopia: Is It Skew or Not?

open access: yesJournal of Eye Movement Research
Ocular tilt reaction (OTR) and trochlear nerve palsy (TNP) can induce cyclotorsion. We aimed to assess the utility of fundus photography in distinguishing between these disorders.

Low Power Clock Network Design

open access: yesJournal of Low Power Electronics and Applications, 2011
Power is a primary concern in modern circuits. Clock distribution networks, in particular, are an essential element of a synchronous digital circuit and a significant power consumer.

Therapeutic Apheresis in Nigeria: A Multi‐Center Summary of Abstracts From the Inaugural Nigerian Society for Apheresis Scientific Meeting

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Therapeutic apheresis (TA) is an established treatment modality for hematologic, neurologic, and immunologic disorders, yet access remains severely limited in sub‐Saharan Africa. Donor apheresis, including platelet apheresis collection from healthy donors, represents an important complementary modality supporting blood product ...

Modeling of thermally induced skew variations in clock distribution network [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Clock distribution network is sensitive to large thermal gradients on the die as the performance of both clock buffers and interconnects are affected by temperature.

TRIANGULAR MATRIX REPRESENTATIONS OF SKEW MONOID RINGS

open access: yes, 2010
Let R be a ring and S a u.p.-monoid. Assume that there is a monoid homomorphism α : S → Aut (R). Suppose that α is weakly rigid and lR(Ra) is pure as a left ideal of R for every element a ∈ R.

Approximations to the Truth: Comparing Survey and Microsimulation Approaches to Measuring Income for Social Indicators [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In this paper, we evaluate income distributions in four European countries (Austria, Italy, Spain and Hungary) using two complementary approaches: a standard approach based on reported incomes in survey data, and a microsimulation approach, where taxes ...

Skew Continuous Morphisms of Ordered Lattice Ringoids

open access: yesMathematics, 2016
Skew continuous morphisms of ordered lattice semirings and ringoids are studied. Different associative semirings and non-associative ringoids are considered. Theorems about properties of skew morphisms are proved. Examples are given.

Skewed Compressed Caches [PDF]

open access: yes2014 47th Annual IEEE/ACM International Symposium on Microarchitecture, 2014
Cache compression seeks the benefits of a larger cache with the area and power of a smaller cache. Ideally, a compressed cache increases effective capacity by tightly compacting compressed blocks, has low tag and metadata overheads, and allows fast lookups. Previous compressed cache designs, however, fail to achieve all these goals.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.
