A doubly skewed normal distribution

Statistics, 2014
We consider a distribution obtained by combining two well-known mechanisms for generating skewed distributions. In this manner we arrive at a flexible model which subsumes and extends several skew distributions which have been discussed in the literature.

On bias reduction estimators of skew-normal and skew-t distributions

Journal of Applied Statistics, 2020
A particular concerns of researchers in statistical inference is bias in parameters estimation. Maximum likelihood estimators are often biased and for small sample size, the first order bias of them can be large and so it may influence the efficiency of the estimator. There are different methods for reduction of this bias.

Skewness and mixtures of normal distributions

Communications in Statistics - Theory and Methods, 1988
The effect of skewness on hypothesis tests for the existence of a mixture of univariate and bivariate normal distributions is examined through a Monte Carlo study. A likelihood ratio test based on results of the simultaneous estimation of skewness parameters, derived from power transformations, with mixture parameters is proposed.

The Skew-Normal Distribution on the Simplex

Communications in Statistics - Theory and Methods, 2007
Density functions on the simplex defined with respect to the Lebesgue measure can change from unimodality to multimodality with perturbation. This phenomenon is induced by the incompatibility of the Aitchison geometry and the Lebesgue measure. A Lebesgue-type measure, compatible with the algebraic geometric structure of the simplex, is used here to ...

Multivariate skew-normal distribution for modelling skewed spatial data

Spatial and Spatio-temporal Epidemiology
Multivariate spatial data are commonly modelled using the shared spatial component and multivariate intrinsic conditional autoregressive (MICAR) models where the spatial random variables are assumed to be normally distributed. However, the normality assumption may not be always right as the spatially structured component may show non-normal ...
