Residual tree damage along skidding trails in beech stands in Greece
Journal of Forestry Research, 2015We studied the damage caused to unfelled trees during skidding operations in four beech stands of northern and central Greece that were managed under differing harvesting systems. After timber was harvested we recorded and analyzed all damage to a width of 2 m along both sides of the skid trails.

The productivity of stands and their accessibility via the skid trail network
2011The aim of this study was to determine the influence of skid trail network design: their width and spacing between them, on the reduction of stand productivity. The study presents a model for calculating the decrease of the current annual increment of the total merchantable bole volume per hectare (P) for the timber harvesting technologies on the ...

Logging Legacies in the Australian Tropics: 56-Years of Skid Trail Recovery
Given continued selective timber harvests from >500 million ha of tropical forest, forest managers need to know about its short and long-term avoidable and unavoidable consequences. Here we focus on long-term ecological impacts from an unavoidable disturbance, the soil and vegetation damage on skid trails used for log extraction. We studied recoveryAlexandra A. Catling +7 more
