Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 1979The presence of congenital skin abnormalities on the back may be associated with a serious underlying spinal anomaly, diastematomyelia. The significance of the progressive development of neurological deficits, due to the presence of a bony or cartilaginous spur in the spinal cord, is stressed.

Skin color is a blend resulting from the skin chromophores red (oxyhaemoglobin), blue (deoxygenated haemoglobin), yellow-orange (carotene, an exogenous pigment), and brown (melanin).

Physiological Measurement, 1993Surface insulation, together with laser Doppler flowmetry, was used to assess the skin microcirculation of paraplegic patients. Two control groups of five male and five female subjects were used to establish the response of normals with which to compare the results obtained from six paraplegic subjects.

[A male with perianal skin abnormalities].
Nederlands tijdschrift voor geneeskunde, 2023A 23-year-old man who has sex with men with perianal pain and blood loss showed erosive perianal plaques. PCR swab of the plaque was positive for Treponema pallidum and herpes simplex virus (HSV) type 2. Patient was diagnosed with primary or secondary syphilis with a co-infection of HSV and was successfully treated with benzathine benzylpenicillin.
