RNA Sequencing Resolves Cryptic Pathogenic Variants in Mitochondrial Disease
ABSTRACT Objective Mitochondrial diseases are the most common inherited metabolic disorders, characterized by pronounced clinical and genetic heterogeneity that complicates molecular diagnosis. Although DNA‐based sequencing approaches have become standard in genetic testing, up to half of patients remain without a definitive diagnosis.

Sertraline Treatment Can Mimic Niemann‐Pick Type C Biomarker Profile: A Diagnostic Pitfall
ABSTRACT Background Oxysterols (cholestane‐3β,5α,6β‐triol and 7‐ketocholesterol) and N‐palmitoyl‐O‐phosphocholineserine (PPCS) are sensitive biomarkers for Niemann‐Pick disease type C (NPC) screening. However, false‐positive results occur, with a biomarker profile suggestive of NPC despite the absence of pathogenic variants in genes involved in NPC or ...

Hyaluronan in the nuchal skin of chromosomally abnormal fetuses [PDF]
Nuchal skin oedema at 10-14 weeks gestation, observed by ultrasonography as increased nuchal translucency (NT), is found in approximately 70% of fetuses with trisomies 21, 18 and 13 as well as those with Turner's syndrome. This study investigates the possibility that one mechanism for increased translucency is an altered composition of the skin with a ...

Skin abnormality in aged fyn-/- fak+/- mice [PDF]
Focal adhesion kinase (FAK) is a novel non-receptor protein tyrosine kinase implicated in transducing signals from cell surface receptors. Its association with Fyn, a member of the Src family of tyrosine kinases, has been observed in cell lines. To examine in vivo the interaction between these two proteins, Fyn-deficient mice were bred with fak ...
