Skin and infectious diseases

1996
Abstract Children may be brought to the A & E department because of the sudden appearance, or worsening, of a rash or its poor response to treatment. The diagnosis of a rash is based on its history, appearance, distribution, and associated physical signs.

Pattern recognition receptors in infectious skin diseases

Microbes and Infection, 2012
During the last decade, multiple pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) have been identified. These are involved in the innate immune response against a plethora of pathogens. However, PRR functioning can also be detrimental, even during infections. This review discusses the current knowledge on PRRs that recognize dermatotropic pathogens, and potential ...

Infectious Diseases of the Skin

2015
Molecular techniques are gaining growing utility in the infectious dermatopathology laboratory. Although culture-based methods are still regarded as the gold standard for diagnosis of most of the infectious diseases of the skin, molecular tests have a great potential due to their high sensitivity and specificity.

Anaerobes Isolated from Infectious Skin Diseases

Anaerobe, 1999
Abstract Anaerobic bacteria isolated from clinical specimens at our clinic from January 1994 to June 1998 were analysed. Anaerobes were usually isolated from secondary infections due to eczema/dermatitis. The majority of anaerobes identified were Peptostreptococcus spp., followed by Propion-ibacterium spp. and Prevotella spp.

Infectious masks of skin diseases in children

Voprosy detskoj dietologii, 2020
The article deals with the diagnostic difficulties and the problems of differential diagnosis of various dermatoses. We describe our own clinical observations of juvenile-onset Behcet’s disease in a 16-year-old adolescent and acrodermatitis enteropathica in a 12-month-old girl. A competent differential diagnosis and adequate therapy made it possible to

Artificial Intelligence in Infectious Skin Disease

Dermatological Reviews
AbstractBackgroundInfective and infectious dermatological diseases, which range from minor diseases like impetigo to serious diseases like deep fungal infections, pose significant public health issues. Given the growth of drug‐resistant microorganisms, it is critical to investigate novel techniques in dermatology. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has shown

Infectious skin diseases: main defense mechanisms and consequences of infectious diseases

Glavvrač (Chief Medical Officer)
The skin provides complex immune protection through innate immunity (physical barrier of the stratum corneum, antimicrobial lipids, resident microflora, secretory IgA) and adaptive immunity (skin-associated lymphoid tissue (SALT), including Langerhans cells, lymphocytes). Disruption of these mechanisms leads to serious infectious consequences: bacteria

Current topics in infectious diseases of the skin

Expert Review of Dermatology, 2012
The interactions between microbial pathogens and human skin are complex. Skin disease can be caused by injury from invasion of pathogens, microorganism-targeted immune response, oncogenic cellular transformation and inflammatory responses directed at microbial antigens that do not appear to be causing tissue damage.

HEMATOGENOUS INFECTIOUS DISEASES OF THE SKIN

Archives of Dermatology, 1930
Twenty-five years ago, I wrote an essay on hematogenous infections and toxic dermatoses. In this paper, I critically summed up the existing knowledge in the light of my own experience. Today I shall again attempt such a summary, but only as far as it is possible to do so in a lecture; that is, only on general lines, and almost entirely restricting ...
