Skin Impedance Measurements with Nanomesh Electrodes for Monitoring Skin Hydration

Advanced Healthcare Materials, 2020
AbstractThe importance of continuous monitoring of skin hydration in daily life, to aid in the diagnosis of skin diseases, is rising. Electrodes that can be worn directly on the skin are attracting attention as an effective means. However, they should not inhibit natural water evaporation from the skin and should not cause inflammation or irritation ...

[Skin hydration and hydrating products].

Annales de dermatologie et de venereologie, 2018
One of the skin's principal functions is to protect the body against its environment by maintaining an effective epidermal barrier, not only against external factors, but also to prevent water loss from the body. Indeed, water homeostasis is vital for the normal physiological functioning of skin.

Pruritus and skin hydration during dialysis

Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation, 1996
Abstract Background Dry skin is frequently observed in uraemic patients and a link with the common complaint of pruritus has been suggested. Objective data on skin dryness in haemodialysed patients is sparse and equivocal.

Nanosystems for skin hydration: a comparative study

International Journal of Cosmetic Science, 2007
SynopsisThe present investigation describes a comparative study for the design of innovative topical formulation for skin hydration. In particular, different colloidal forms based on lipidic components have been produced and characterized. Morphology and dimensional distribution have been investigated by means of electron microscopy and photon ...

Towards Medical Terahertz Sensing of Skin Hydration

2009
Terahertz imaging has shown promise as a tool for noninvasive in-vivo detection of skin abnormalities, including skin cancer, burns, scars, and wounds due to its low non-ionizing photon energy and ability to penetrate clothing and gauze. This study examines whether low-level bulk differences in the water content between hyperhydrated and dehydrated ...

Hydrating skin by stimulating biosynthesis of aquaporins.

Journal of drugs in dermatology : JDD, 2007
Aquaporins (AQPs) are proteins that facilitate the transport of water across cell membranes. AQP3 expression is related to the expressions of other epidermal proteins involved in water maintenance (ie, CD44, claudin-1, and filaggrin). The expressions of AQP3 water channels are strongly affected by age and chronic sun exposure, and a defective osmotic ...

Calibration of skin hydration measurements

2007
A novel method for in vitro calibration of skin hydration measurements is presented. The method combines gravimetric and electrical measurements and reveals an exponential dependency of measured electrical susceptance to absolute water content in the epidermal stratum corneum.
