Estimating skin permeation. The validation of five mathematical skin permeation models

Chemosphere, 1995
This study provides an analysis of the reliability of five mathematical models, simulating permeation of substances through the skin from aqueous solutions. An extensive database was generated, containing data on 123 measured permeation coefficients of 99 different chemicals and their physicochemical properties.

Skin permeation: The years of enlightenment

International Journal of Pharmaceutics, 2005
Considerable advances in our understanding of the mechanisms by which drugs permeate the skin barrier have been made over the past 60 years. The key publications, which have influenced the field of skin permeation research are highlighted in the present review. The methodologies commonly employed for estimation of skin permeability are discussed as are

Effects of Adhesives and Permeation Enhancers on the Skin Permeation of Captopril

Drug Development and Industrial Pharmacy, 2001
To formulate a transdermal drug delivery system of captopril, monolithic adhesive matrix type patches containing 20% captopril, different pressure-sensitive adhesives, and various permeation enhancers were prepared using a labcoater. The effects of the adhesives and permeation enhancers on skin permeation of captopril from the prepared patches were ...

Skin Permeation of Chemicals

2017
Chemical compounds which may contact the skin include chemicals such as pesticides used against cockroaches and mosquitoes, repellents put into drawers, and topically applied therapeutic drugs and cosmetics. Plasticizers contained in building materials, endocrine disrupting chemicals (environmental hormones), volcanic ash, and radioactive materials may

Permeation of Steroids through Human Skin

Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1995
The permeabilities of many steroids through human skin have been previously measured and reported in the literature. Analysis of these data reveals that significant discrepancies exist between the measurements of Scheuplein et al. and those of other groups.

SMGA gels for the skin permeation of haloperidol

Journal of Controlled Release, 2005
Small molecule gelling agent (SMGA) gels were developed using the gelator GP-1 in the solvents, namely, isostearyl alcohol (ISA) and propylene glycol (PG), to deliver haloperidol through the skin. The concentrations of the drug, haloperidol, the enhancer, farnesol and the gelator, GP-1 are 3 mg/ml, 5% (w/v) and 5% (w/v), respectively.

In Vitro–In Vivo Correlation in Skin Permeation

Pharmaceutical Research, 2013
In vitro skin permeation studies have been used extensively in the development and optimisation of delivery of actives in vivo. However, there are few reported correlations of such in vitro studies with in vivo data. The aim of this study was to investigate the skin permeation of a model active, niacinamide, both in vitro and in vivo.Conventional ...

Evaporation and Permeation of Fragrance Applied to the Skin [PDF]

open access: possibleIndustrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, 2019
This study proposes a mathematical model based on a differential mass balance for predicting the evaporation and permeation profiles of fragrance systems applied to skin.
