Influence of omega fatty acids on skin permeation of a coenzyme Q10 nanoemulsion cream formulation: characterization, in silico and ex vivo determination

Drug Development and Industrial Pharmacy, 2019
Objective: The aim of this study was to develop a coenzyme Q10 nanoemulsion cream, characterize and to determine the influence of omega fatty acids on the delivery of coenzyme Q10 across model skin membrane via ex vivo and in silico techniques.

Effects of Adhesives and Permeation Enhancers on the Skin Permeation of Captopril

Drug Development and Industrial Pharmacy, 2001
To formulate a transdermal drug delivery system of captopril, monolithic adhesive matrix type patches containing 20% captopril, different pressure-sensitive adhesives, and various permeation enhancers were prepared using a labcoater. The effects of the adhesives and permeation enhancers on skin permeation of captopril from the prepared patches were ...

Skin Permeation of Chemicals

2017
Chemical compounds which may contact the skin include chemicals such as pesticides used against cockroaches and mosquitoes, repellents put into drawers, and topically applied therapeutic drugs and cosmetics. Plasticizers contained in building materials, endocrine disrupting chemicals (environmental hormones), volcanic ash, and radioactive materials may

SKIN PERMEATION ENHANCEMENT BY FATTY ACIDS

Journal of Dispersion Science and Technology, 1999
Abstract The present study elucidates the skin permeation enhancement effects of a number of fatty acids, i.e. straight-chain saturated (SFA), monounsaturated (MUFA) and polyunsaturated acids (PUFA). The effects were studied using human stratum corneum (SC) and p-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) as a model permeant.

In vitro skin permeation techniques

Journal of Controlled Release, 1992
Abstract This paper reviews various techniques used to assess permeation of drugs into and through skin under in vitro conditions. There have been a wide variety of diffusion cells designed for in vitro measurement of skin permeation. These cells have generally been designed in one of two ways: side-by-side (bichambers) and vertical in vivo mimic ...

A Random Walk Model of Skin Permeation

Risk Analysis, 2002
A new mathematical model for permeability of chemicals in aqueous vehicle through skin is presented. The rationale for this model is to represent diffusion by its fundamental molecular mechanism, i.e., random thermal motion. Diffusion is modeled as a two‐dimensional random walk through the biphasic (lipid and corneocyte) stratum corneum (SC).

Skin permeation enhancement effect and skin irritation of saturated fatty alcohols

International Journal of Pharmaceutics, 2002
Though the skin permeation enhancement effect of chemical penetration enhancers has been studied extensively, their skin irritation potential has not been adequately investigated. The objective of this study was to evaluate the skin permeation enhancement effect and skin irritation of saturated fatty alcohols using melatonin as a model compound.

Transdermal permeation of neutral molecules by skin electroporation

Journal of Controlled Release, 1998
Electroporation of skin has recently been shown to enhance transport of charged molecules across skin by up to four orders of magnitude. This study demonstrates that high-voltage pulses can also increase transdermal permeation of two neutral model solutes, i.e. mannitol and water, up to 100-fold.

Formulation Strategies for Modulating Skin Permeation

2002
I. INTRODUCTION Because of the barrier properties of the stratum corneum and, also, depending on the physicochemical properties of the drug, transport from simple vehicles will often be insufficient to achieve therapeutic drug concentrations at the site of action.

Radioactive contaminant permeation through skin: current understanding

Journal of Radiological Protection
Abstract This review presents our current understanding of the permeation of radiochemicals through intact or slightly damaged skin from studies on human volunteers, experimental animals and radiological accidents involving contamination.
