A Photographic Survey of the Southern Sky

This paper presents recent work from a photographic survey being carried out to detect very cool stars and brown dwarfs. Using B, R and I band plates from the UK and ESO Schmidt telescopes and the cOSMOS plate measuring machine we have selected a set of very low mass star candidates on the basis of extreme photometric colour.
