The experiments and simulations demonstrate that, in general, alternative carbon sources can decrease fossil CO2 without adversely impacting EAF process and product. High plastics and tires ratios cause unsafe conditions and poor slag foaming. Hydrogen in EAF burners decreases CO2 but increases water vapor, which can raise the hydrogen content in ...

Ensemble models are adopted to estimate the sterile content of scraps arriving to the scrap yard. Feed‐forward neural networks are exploited to estimate steel composition and temperature after Ladle furnace. The models are validated on data from two steelworks very satisfactory results and are inherently transferable to other steelworks, as they are ...

Hydrochar‐mill‐scale briquettes with varying C/O molar ratios (0.07–0.90) have been tested at 1650 °C to evaluate their slag foaming performance for electric arc furnace application. All seven briquette recipes developed succeed in promoting slag foaming.

Slagging characteristics during residential combustion of biomass pellets
Limited availability of sawdust and planer shavings and an increasing demand for biomass pellets in Europe are pushing the market toward other, more problematic raw materials with broader variation in total fuel ash content and composition of the ash ...

H2 prereduction selectively metallizes Fe in UG2 chromite pellets at 1100°C, while silicon carbide becomes active at 1300°C to convert remaining Cr2O3 to carbides and promote Cr metallization. By separating the roles of H2 and SiC, the sequential route reaches up to 65.7% Cr metallization and suppresses in‐furnace CO generation by ≈75% versus ...

Research progress on influencing factors and control methods of slagging in biomass combustion
Biomass combustion serves as a carbon-neutral energy solution but faces persistent challenges due to ash-related operational inefficiencies. This review systematically examines the thermochemical interactions among alkali metals (K, Na), chlorine (Cl ...

This study investigates how slag interacts with magnesia–carbon (MgO–C) refractories under conditions relevant to hydrogen plasma smelting reduction. High‐temperature refractory wear tests are combined with thermodynamic modeling to examine refractory dissolution into slag and slag infiltration into the refractory.
