To Sleep or Not to Sleep [PDF]

open access: yesSeminars in Interventional Radiology, 2009
Yesterday, I reviewed an abdominal computed tomography prior to a transjugular liver biopsy. The left lobe, or whatever was located in the expected anatomic position of the left lobe, was clearly abnormal. I wasn't sure if it was a hematoma, an ischemic left lateral segment, or something else.

The impact of central and obstructive respiratory events on cerebral oxygenation in adults with sleep disordered breathing

open access: yesJournal of Innovative Optical Health Sciences, 2023
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and central sleep apnea (CSA) are two main types of sleep disordered breathing (SDB). While the changes in cerebral hemodynamics triggered by OSA events have been well studied using near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS), they ...

Predictors of changes in cerebral perfusion and oxygenation during obstructive sleep apnea

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) is a common sleep disorder. Severe OSAS defined as apnea–hypopnea index (AHI) ≥ 30/h is a risk factor for developing cerebro-cardiovascular diseases.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Cardiovascular Disease: A Scientific Statement From the American Heart Association.

open access: yesCirculation, 2021
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is characterized by recurrent complete and partial upper airway obstructive events, resulting in intermittent hypoxemia, autonomic fluctuation, and sleep fragmentation. Approximately 34% and 17% of middle-aged men and women,

The Comparison of Early Hemodynamic Response to Single-Pulse Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation following Inhibitory or Excitatory Theta Burst Stimulation on Motor Cortex

open access: yesBrain Sciences, 2023
We present a new study design aiming to enhance the understanding of the mechanism by which continuous theta burst stimulation (cTBS) or intermittent theta burst stimulation (iTBS) paradigms elicit cortical modulation.

DeepSleepNet: A Model for Automatic Sleep Stage Scoring Based on Raw Single-Channel EEG [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE transactions on neural systems and rehabilitation engineering, 2017
This paper proposes a deep learning model, named DeepSleepNet, for automatic sleep stage scoring based on raw single-channel EEG. Most of the existing methods rely on hand-engineered features, which require prior knowledge of sleep analysis.

Edge‐modulated stagnant‐lid convection and volcanic passive margins

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, 2007
The initial oceanic crust along volcanic passive margins is a factor of ∼3 greater than that of typical oceanic crust (20 versus 6–7 km). Convection driven by the edge of the continental lithosphere may cause mantle material to circulate through the ...

Testing an early online intervention for the treatment of disturbed sleep during the COVID-19 pandemic in self-reported good and poor sleepers (Sleep COVID-19): study protocol for a randomised controlled trial

open access: yesTrials, 2021
Background Theoretical models of insomnia suggest that stressful life events, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, can cause acute insomnia (short-term disruptions to sleep).
