How to interpret the results of a sleep study [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Community Hospital Internal Medicine Perspectives, 2014
With an increased level of awareness of sleep disorders among the public, there has been an increase in requests for sleep studies, and consequently, more referrals made to sleep specialists by primary care physicians and other health care providers ...

Numerical modelling of flow and transport in rough fractures

open access: yesJournal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, 2014
Simulation of flow and transport through rough walled rock fractures is investigated using the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) and random walk (RW), respectively.

Sleep researchers’ rankings of sleep journals

open access: yesJournal of Sleep Research, 2022
SummaryThe impact factor is used to rank the quality of scientific journals but has been criticised for a number of reasons. The aim of the study was to investigate sleep researchers’ perceptions of sleep journals to determine whether subjective rankings of journals were in line with the journals’ impact factors.

A comparison of sleep assessment tools by nurses and patients in critical care [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Aim The aim of this critical care sleep assessment pilot study was to evaluate the usefulness of three sleep assessment tools to identify which, if any, provided the closest comparison between the nurses’ judgement and the patients’ experience of their ...

Poor sleep quality and progression of gait impairment in an incident Parkinson’s disease cohort [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Abnormal sleep may associate with cognitive decline in Parkinson's disease (PD). Furthermore, sleep dysfunction may associate with worse motor outcome.

Rapidly and slowly progressive neuromuscular disease: differences in pulmonary function, respiratory tract infections and response to lung volume recruitment therapy (LVR)

open access: yesBMJ Open Respiratory Research, 2022
Introduction Reduced lung volumes are a hallmark of respiratory muscle weakness in neuromuscular disease (NMD). Low respiratory system compliance (Crs) may contribute to restriction and be amenable to lung volume recruitment (LVR) therapy.

Numerical modeling of the effects of roughness on flow and eddy formation in fractures

open access: yesJournal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, 2017
The effect of roughness on flow in fractures was investigated using lattice Boltzmann method (LBM). Simulations were conducted for both statistically generated hypothetical fractures and a natural dolomite fracture.

Refreshing Sleep and Sleep Continuity Determine Perceived Sleep Quality [PDF]

open access: yesSleep Disorders, 2016
Sleep quality is a construct often measured, employed as an outcome criterion for therapeutic success, but never defined. In two studies we examined appraised good and poor sleep quality in three groups: a control group, individuals with obstructive sleep apnea, and those with insomnia disorder.

Potential Early Risk Biomarkers for Reduced Forced Expiratory Volume in Children Post‐Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We sought to identify potential early risk biomarkers for lung disease in children post‐allogeneic HCT. Patients with pulmonary function tests 3 months post‐transplant and plasma samples between days 7 and 14 post‐HCT were included. Six of 27 subjects enrolled had reduced forced expiratory volume 1 (FEV1) z scores.

On the genus "Asplenium" in the Iberian Peninsula" [PDF]

open access: yes, 1983
The Asplenium species recorded from the Iberian peninsula comprise diploids and tetraploids, and of the latter, both auto- and allotetraploids occur. Evidence from the meiotic pairing behaviour of the chromosomes in synthetic hybrids is adduced to show ...
