Sleep Facilitates Extraction of Temporal Regularities With Varying Timescales

open access: yesFrontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience, 2022
Evidence suggests that memory consolidation is facilitated by sleep, both through the strengthening of existing memories and by extracting regularities embedded in those memories. We previously observed that one sleep stage, Slow-Wave sleep (SWS), is particularly involved in the extraction of temporal regularities.

Consistency where it counts: Sleep regularity is associated with circulating white blood cell count in young adults

open access: yesBrain, Behavior, & Immunity - Health, 2021
Background: Sleep irregularity is predictive of poor health outcomes, and particularly those of cardiometabolic origins. The immune system is implicated in the pathogenesis of cardiometabolic diseases, however the relation between sleep regularity and ...

Not simply a matter of parents-Infants' sleep-wake patterns are associated with their regularity of eating.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2023
In adults there are indications that regular eating patterns are related to better sleep quality. During early development, sleep and eating habits experience major maturational transitions.

Tracking Human Behavioural Consistency by Analysing Periodicity of Household Water Consumption [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
People are living longer than ever due to advances in healthcare, and this has prompted many healthcare providers to look towards remote patient care as a means to meet the needs of the future. It is now a priority to enable people to reside in their own

Approximate entropy and auto mutual information analysis of the electroencephalogram in Alzheimer's disease patients [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We analysed the electroencephalogram (EEG) from Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients with two nonlinear methods: approximate entropy (ApEn) and auto mutual information (AMI).

Behavioral insomnia in infants and young children [PDF]

open access: yesClinical and Experimental Pediatrics, 2021
In infants and young children, bedtime problems and night waking are common and the main presentations of insomnia. Poor sleep may critically impact the daytime functioning and mood of the child and their caregivers.

Design techniques for low-power systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Portable products are being used increasingly. Because these systems are battery powered, reducing power consumption is vital. In this report we give the properties of low-power design and techniques to exploit them on the architecture of the system.

Sleep During a Regular Week Night: A Twin-Sibling Study [PDF]

open access: yesTwin Research and Human Genetics, 2008
AbstractPrevious genetic investigations of variation in normal sleep have focused on measures that describe sleep over longer periods of time. We undertook a study with the aim of evaluating whether heritability can be found in single-night sleep traits.

Global timing: a conceptual framework to investigate the neural basis of rhythm perception in humans and non-human species [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Timing cues are an essential feature of music. To understand how the brain gives rise to our experience of music we must appreciate how acoustical temporal patterns are integrated over the range of several seconds in order to extract global timing.
