INVESTIGATION OF THE EFFECT OF SLENDERNESS RATIO ON THE STRUCTURAL RESPONSE OF MASONRY MINARETS
Recent large earthquakes (eg, the Mw7.2, 2011 Van, Turkey, earthquake and the Mw6.6, 2017 Mugla, Turkey, earthquake) have shown that the vulnerability of slender masonry minarets under seismic loadings . The response of minarets to seismic excitations are different from other form structures because of their complex behavior due to geometrical changes ...

A combined finite element and phase‐field approach predicts the evolution of microstructure during the directional solidification of Ni‐based superalloys. The model reveals how withdrawal rate, temperature gradient, and wall thickness control the dendrite spacing, highlighting the strong effect of surface regions in thin sections where dendrite growth ...

Equivalent Slenderness Ratio Method for Design of T-Struts Subject to Compressive Force
T-struts subject to centroid compression buckle flexural-torsionally about their axis of symmetry. When the force is applied at the shear center of the section, T-struts buckle either flexurally or torsionally without coupling of flexure with twisting ...

Powder Optimization Strategies for Binder Jetting Printing of BaTiO3 and Ba0,6Sr0,4TiO3 Ceramics
Powder optimization is investigated to enable binder jetting of BaTiO3 and Ba0.6Sr0.4TiO3 ferroelectric ceramics. The antagonistic relationship between flowability and binder compatibility is addressed through binder impregnation of granulated powders and fumed silica addition to fine powders.

Evaluating Energy Absorption Performance of Filled Lattice Structures
Maximum stress must be considered to robustly evaluate energy absorber designs. This approach was applied to compare all types of absorbers in a single Ashby diagram and determine the utility of filling lattice voids with a second material. High‐performance fillers can improve the performance of lattices that are limited by buckling or catastrophic ...

Creating Ti–Fe α/β Alloys by Diffusion‐Driven Solid‐State Processing
This study proposes making alloys containing fast diffusing elements that are difficult to produce by ingot metallurgy, by diffusion‐driven solid‐state HIP processing of elemental powders and low‐temperature homogenisation. Here, novel Fe‐Ti α–β alloys are formed having fine α–β lamellae, a small β prior grain size without significant intermetallics ...

Mg–Zn composites with a thickness of 0.21 mm were fabricated using roll bonding of a kirigami‐patterned Mg alloy inlay within a Zn matrix. Thermal activation following this process led to the formation of tailored intermetallic structures, which provided the composite with enhanced flexural strength.

Effect of Shape and Slenderness Ratio on the Behavior of Laterally Loaded Piles
In case of piles subjected to lateral loading, the failure mechanisms of short pile under lateral loads are different from that of long pile case. The lateral load capacity of pile is limited in lateral deformation of the pile that effected directly on ...
