Laser‐Based Sculpturing of Embedded Ultrathin Metal‐Oxide Nanopores for Enhanced Biomolecular Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Controlled laser‐drilling of embedded HfO2 membranes creates three layer nanopores with Gaussian‐shaped cavities sculptured in the supporting layers. These embedded solid‐state nanopores slow DNA translocation by 12‐fold compared to SiNx pores, enabling high‐resolution, label‐free detection of short DNAs, RNAs, and proteins.

Effect of Waviness Contact on Sliding Friction of the Piston-Cylinder System in Mixed Lubrication

open access: yesTribology in Industry
The piston-cylinder is the main component of the transmission of energy in the vehicle's engine, but it represents a significant source of unavoidable friction, which negatively affects engine performance by reducing piston lifespan and increasing fuel ...

Wear and friction of TiAlN/VN coatings against Al2O3 in air at room and elevated temperatures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
TiAlN/VN multilayer coatings exhibit excellent dry sliding wear resistance and low friction coefficient, reported to be associated with the formation of self-lubricating V2O5.

Droplet Triboelectrification on Liquid‐Like Polymer Brushes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work investigates the triboelectrification of water droplets on polymer brush‐coated surfaces exhibiting minimal contact line pinning. Such surfaces enable the systematic study of electrode patterning and controlled changes in droplet contact area.

Coulombic structural superlubricity at high sliding speeds under ambient conditions

open access: yesPhysical Review Research
Structural superlubricity is an intriguing physical phenomenon, whereby sliding at a structurally incommensurate, atomically flat interface yields vanishingly small friction forces.

Experimental Investigation of Friction Coefficient and Wear Rate of Composite Materials Sliding Against Smooth and Rough Mild Steel Counterfaces [PDF]

open access: yesTribology in Industry, 2013
In the present study, friction coefficient and wear rate of gear fiber reinforced plastic (gear fiber) and glass fiber reinforced plastic (glass fiber) sliding against mild steel are investigated experimentally. In order to do so, a pin on disc apparatus

CRITICAL VELOCITY OF CONTROLLABILITY OF SLIDING FRICTION BY NORMAL OSCILLATIONS IN VISCOELASTIC CONTACTS

open access: yesFacta Universitatis. Series: Mechanical Engineering, 2016
Sliding friction can be reduced substantially by applying ultrasonic vibration in the sliding plane or in the normal direction. This effect is well known and used in many applications ranging from press forming to ultrasonic actuators.

Tribological properties of Ni3Al matrix self-lubricating composites with a gradient composite structure prepared by laser melt deposition

open access: yesMaterials Research Express, 2022
As the contact part of metal-matrix self-lubricating composites during sliding friction, the friction interface layer directly affects the tribological performance of the material.

Influence of Sliding-Friction Induced Strain Hardening on the Tribological Behavior of Friction Stir Processed AA2219 Alloy

open access: yesTribology Online, 2022
In this work, the viability of Friction Stir Processing (FSP) was explored as a potential method to enhance the tribological properties of aerospace alloy AA2219-T87. The dry sliding wear properties of FSP, and as-received AA2219 alloy in mild and severe
