On the Propagation of Slip Fronts at Frictional Interfaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The dynamic initiation of sliding at planar interfaces between deformable and rigid solids is studied with particular focus on the speed of the slip front.

Characterization of Nitinol Produced by Laser Powder Bed Fusion for Mechanical Metamaterial Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Stabilization of L‐PBF Ni50.7Ti49.3 under low‐cycle loading was investigated. Recoverable strain after cycling was dependent on the amount of applied load. Recovery ratio was 53.4% and 35.1% at intermediate and high load, respectively. The maximum total strain reached 10.3% at a high load of 1200 MPa.

The Effect of Screw-in Studs on Equine Hoof and Limb Kinematics while Cantering and Jumping on an Artificial Surface

open access: yesInternational Journal of Equine Science
Studs are used to optimize hoof grip upon contact with the surface to prevent slip and enhance performance. Previous research has explored the influence of uniaxially placed studs on a grass surface during canter, the influence of stud length on braking ...

Characterization of Friction and Wear Behavior of Friction Modifiers used in Wheel-Rail Contacts

open access: yesInternational Journal of Prognostics and Health Management, 2017
Reliable traction between wheel and rail is an important issue in the railway industry. To reduce variations in the coefficient of friction, so-called “friction modifiers” (carrier with particles) are used. Twin-disk tests were done with three commercial

Integrasi Model Pembangkit Listrik Tenaga Angin Pada Analisis Aliran Daya Sistem Tenaga

open access: yesJurnal Rekayasa Elektrika, 2020
This paper proposes a new method for modeling and integrating wind turbine generating system (WTGS) into power flow analysis. The proposed WTGS model is based on the slip calculation of the WTGS induction generator.

Surface Roughness and Effective Stick-Slip Motion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
The effect of random surface roughness on hydrodynamics of viscous incompressible liquid is discussed. Roughness-driven contributions to hydrodynamic flows, energy dissipation, and friction force are calculated in a wide range of parameters.

Enhancing Strength and Electrical Conductivity in Al–Zr–Sc Conductor Alloys Through Sn and Sr Microalloying and Two‐Step Aging Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Trace additions of Sn and Sr combined with a two‐step aging treatment are shown to enhance the microstructure and performance of Al–Zr–Sc conductor alloys. Strength and electrical conductivity increase concurrently through accelerated precipitation of fine Al3(Sc, Zr) precipitates and improved dislocation resistance, offering a cost‐effective pathway ...

A Universal Molecular-Kinetic Scaling Relation for Slip of a Simple Fluid at a Solid Boundary

open access: yes, 2019
Using the observation that slip in simple fluids at low and moderate shear rates is a thermally activated process driven by the shear stress in the fluid close to the solid boundary, we develop a molecular-kinetic model for simple fluid slip at solid ...

Molecular dynamics simulations of oscillatory Couette flows with slip boundary conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The effect of interfacial slip on steady-state and time-periodic flows of monatomic liquids is investigated using non-equilibrium molecular dynamics simulations.

Thermomechanical Fatigue and Creep–Fatigue Interaction of Inconel 718 Additively Manufactured by Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Thermomechanical fatigue tests of laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB) Inconel 718 show that the additively manufactured material reaches almost the lifetimes of conventionally‐rolled material under no‐dwell conditions. Introducing dwell times at the maximum temperature markedly reduces the lifetimes due to pronounced grain boundary sliding associated
