Creep‐Induced Microstructural Evolution in an A2‐B2 Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A 27.3Ta‐27.3Mo‐27.3Ti‐8Cr‐10Al (at.%) refractory high‐entropy alloy with precipitation‐strengthened A2‐B2 microstructure was studied by creep tests at 1030°C, which demonstrate a transition in deformation mechanisms in the range of 100–150 MPa applied stress. This is associated with changes in dislocation–precipitate interactions. Relevant deformation

Faulting and Extension Rate over the last 20,000 Years in the Offshore Whakatane Graben, New Zealand Continental Shelf.

open access: yes, 2006
Oblique rifting in the offshore Taupo Volcanic Zone, New Zealand, is expressed in widely distributed active normal faulting in the 20 km-wide Whakatane Graben.

On the modelling of isothermal gas flows at the microscale [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
This paper makes two new propositions regarding the modelling of rarefied (non-equilibrium) isothermal gas flows at the microscale. The first is a new test case for benchmarking high-order, or extended, hydrodynamic models for these flows.

Influence of Test Temperature and Test Frequency on Fatigue Life of Aluminum Alloy EN AW‐2618A

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of test temperature and test frequency on the fatigue life of EN AW‐2618A is investigated. High‐cycle fatigue tests are performed at different test temperatures and frequencies on the 1000 h/230°C overaged state. Both test parameters reduce fatigue life due to time‐dependent damage mechanisms.

The 2010–2011 South Rigan (Baluchestan) earthquake sequence and its implications for distributed deformation and earthquake hazard in southeast Iran

open access: yes
We investigate the source processes and tectonic significance of two earthquakes that occurred on 2010 December 20 (Mw 6.5) and 2011 January 27 (Mw 6.2) within a desert region south of the town of Rigan, SE Iran. The two earthquakes, which we refer to as

The 2014 Mw 6.1 Ludian Earthquake: The Application of RADARSAT-2 SAR Interferometry and GPS for this Conjugated Ruptured Event

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2019
Although the Zhaotong−Ludian fault is a seismically active zone located in the boundary between the Sichuan−Yunnan block and the South China block, it has not experienced a large earthquake greater than Mw 7 since at least 1700.

High‐Temperature Nanoindentation of Metals: Assessing Thermal Drift, Frame Compliance, and Chemical Composition Effects on the Reported Mechanical Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Do not let thermal drift and instrument artifacts deceive high‐temperature nanoindentation results. We compare classical Oliver–Pharr and automatic image recognition analyses across steels and a Ni alloy to quantify these effects. Accounting for artifacts reveals systematic softening with temperature, while Cr and Ni additions boost resistance ...

Earthquake source parameters of the 2009 Mw 7.8 Fiordland (New Zealand) earthquake from L-band InSAR observations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The 2009 MW7.8 Fiordland (New Zealand) earthquake is the largest to have occurred in New Zealand since the 1931 Mw 7.8 Hawke’s Bay earthquake, 1 000 km to the northwest.

InSAR coseismic deformation field and tectonic implications of the 2023 MS 5.5 Subei Earthquake, Gansu, China

open access: yesDizhi lixue xuebao
Objective  On October 24, 2023, an MS 5.5 earthquake occurred in Subei County, Jiuquan City, Gansu Province. The epicenter was located in the Qilian mountain seismic belt at the northeastern margin of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.

Workflow for Design of Experiments‐Based Modeling of Species Transport and Growth Kinetics in GaN Hydride Vapor Phase Epitaxy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A novel workflow for investigating hydride vapor phase epitaxy for GaN bulk crystal growth is proposed. It combines Design of experiments (DoE) with physical simulations of mass transport and crystal growth kinetics, serving as an intermediate step between DoE and experiments.
