Slip distribution and fracture in magnesium oxide
Philosophical Magazine, 1962Abstract It is shown that as-cleaved magnesium oxide may go through several distinguishable stages of deformation prior to fracture. The exact mechanism of fracture depends on the stage at which it actually occurs. In all cases fracture occurs by a dislocation configuration localizing strain energy near a sub-critical microcrack.

Predicting the probability of slip in gait: methodology and distribution study
Computer Methods in Biomechanics and Biomedical Engineering, 2015The likelihood of a slip is related to the available and required friction for a certain activity, here gait. Classical slip and fall analysis presumed that a walking surface was safe if the difference between the mean available and required friction coefficients exceeded a certain threshold.

Stick-slip operation of the modular distributed manipulator system
Proceedings of the 1998 American Control Conference. ACC (IEEE Cat. No.98CH36207), 1998The modular distributed manipulator system (MDMS) is a novel materials handling system which is a fixed array of actuated wheels capable of inducing arbitrary motions in the plane. The wheels transport and manipulate objects that rest on the array. The motion of the object is determined by a combination of object weight distribution, actuator dynamics,

Distribution of slip along an earthquake fault
Acta Seismologica Sinica, 2004Slip distribution of the 1979 Imperial Valley, 1989 Loma Prieta, 1992 Landers, 1994 Northridge, and 1995 Kobe earthquake shows a piece-wise Gutenberg-Richter’s law. For small slips, the b-value is near to 1; while for large slips, the b-value is larger than 1.

Slip of polydisperse polymers: Molecular weight distribution above and below the plane of slip
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2015When strong slip occurs during the drag flow of highly entangled polybutadienes (PBD) in a sliding plate rheometer equipped with stainless steel parallel plates, a thin film of polymer debris remains on the substrate after the slip. This debris is assumed to be formed by the disentanglement process that occurs in strong slip at a distance of about one ...

Measurement of the pressure distribution during the onset of slip
2012 IEEE Sensors, 2012We report on the direct measurement of the pressure distribution of the contact surface between an elastic block and a rigid plate during the onset of slip. The measurement was carried out by using an array of seven MEMS pressure sensors embedded inside the elastic block.

Distribution of angular misfits in fault-slip data
Journal of Structural Geology, 1996The validity and the accuracy of a stress determination method based on fault-slip data inversion depends on how the misfits are defined and processed in the inversion procedure. To characterize major features of fault-slip data, angular misfits are simulated for both inherited faults and conjugate faults.
