On the distribution of diatoms on cover slips: cause for concern

Journal of Paleolimnology, 2013
We investigated the effect of frustule morphology on the distribution of various diatom taxa on microscope cover slips, using an artificial assemblage. Seven diatom morphotypes were processed separately in nitric acid and an eighth morphotype (Chaetoceros muelleri) was processed in Lugol’s. These were mixed into a single assemblage and dried on a cover

The co-seismic slip distribution of the Landers earthquake

Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America, 1994
AbstractWe derived a model for the co-seismic slip distribution on the faults which ruptured during the Landers earthquake sequence of 28 June 1992. The model is based on the inversion of surface geodetic measurements, primarily vector displacements measured using the Global Positioning System (GPS).

A Distributed Parameter Maxwell-Slip Model for the Hysteresis in Piezoelectric Actuators

IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 2019
In this paper, the Maxwell-slip model is extended to a distributed parameter Maxwell-slip (DPMS) model, and a DPMS model parameter identification process is proposed for the hysteresis in piezoelectric actuators (PEAs). This model is governed by a saturation deformation function (SDF) and a stiffness function (SF); it requires only a few parameters and

Slip distribution of the 1985 Central Chile earthquake

Tectonophysics, 1988
Abstract Geodetic elevation changes record the deformation associated with the M s = 7.8, March 3, 1985, Central Chile earthquake. By summing elemental point sources in a half-space and employing a gradient technique with positivity constraints, we resolve the slip distribution on the dislocation surface.

Multicycle slip distribution along a laboratory fault

Journal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, 1991
Slip distribution along a laboratory fault, which consists of eight spring‐connected blocks that are elastically driven to slide on a frictional surface, has been examined for a “long” sequence of slip events to test the applicability of some conceptual models proposed recently in the literature.
