Slip length in a dilute gas

We study the phenomenon of slip length using molecular dynamics and direct simulation Monte Carlo simulations of a dilute gas. Our work extends the range of Knudsen numbers that have been previously studied. Bhattacharya and Lie suggest a logarithmic dependence of slip length on Knudsen number.

Direct measurement of the apparent slip length

We measure velocity profiles in water flowing through thin microchannels, using particle image velocimetry combined with a nanopositioning system. From the velocity profiles, we determine the slip lengths in two cases: Smooth hydrophilic glass surfaces, and smooth hydrophobic glass surfaces, grafted with a monolayer of silane.

Influence of Wall Deformation on a Slip Length

This paper presents the effect of a wall deformation on the boundaries conditions of a shear flow of the viscous fluid over a deformable wall which has a periodic deformation and small amplitude. The Reynolds number for the flow over a wall is low and the creeping flow equations apply. The no-slip boundary condition on the deformable wall applies.
