Current Slip and Strain Rate Distribution Along the Ganzi-Yushu-Xianshuihe Fault System Based on InSAR and GPS Observations

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2022
The Ganzi-Yushu-Xianshuihe fault (GYXSF), a large strike-slip fault located on the east side of the Tibetan Plateau, has seen high seismic activity in recent years.

The Impact of High‐Productivity Processing on the Fatigue Failure of an Additive Manufactured Superalloy HAYNES 282

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The low cycle fatigue life of additive manufactured HAYNES® 282® superalloy was investigated for conventional and high‐productivity processing: samples of the former lasted 1400–1700 cycles, while samples of the latter failed at ~ 1200 cycles, at 760 °C and 1% strain.

Probabilistic Assessment of Slip Rates and Their Variability Over Time of Offshore Buried Thrusts: A Case Study in the Northern Adriatic Sea

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2021
When sedimentation rates overtake tectonic rates, the detection of ongoing tectonic deformation signatures becomes particularly challenging. The Northern Apennines orogen is one such case where a thick Plio-Pleistocene foredeep sedimentary cover blankets

A Workflow to Accelerate Microstructure‐Sensitive Fatigue Life Predictions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a workflow to accelerate predictions of microstructure‐sensitive fatigue life. Results from frameworks with varying levels of simplification are benchmarked against published reference results. The analysis reveals a trade‐off between accuracy and model complexity, offering researchers a practical guide for selecting the optimal ...

Experimental Investigation of the Effect of Fault Reactivation Induced by Water Injection

open access: yesApplied Sciences
An understanding of fault reactivation induced by water injection is of great significance for geothermal energy development and utilization. We conducted a series of water injection shear tests on low-permeability granite samples that each contained a ...

Incorporating and reporting uncertainties in fault slip rates [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, 2009
Quantitative slip rate estimates are essential to understanding crustal deformation processes and assessing seismic hazard. Computing slip rates requires two fundamental ingredients: estimates of the age of an offset landform or deposit and displacement along the fault of interest.

PBF‐LB/M of Ti‐6Al‐4V: High‐Pressure Solution Treatment and Aging for Applications in a Sustainable Aerospace

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing (AM) allows great geometric freedom for lightweight components. As parts are progressively optimized exploiting potentials in AM leading in smaller material cross sections, high pressure solution treating and aging (STA) treatments show an enormous potential for strongly improving material properties.

Manufacturing Continuous Fiber‐Reinforced Printing Filaments: Development of a Post‐Consolidation Unit

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A novel, temperature‐controlled post‐consolidation unit is developed to test its potential to improve the melt impregnation process used to manufacture continuous fiber‐reinforced filaments for additive manufacturing of high‐performance thermoplastics.

Role of multiscale heterogeneity in fault slip from quasi-static numerical simulations

open access: yesEarth, Planets and Space, 2017
Quasi-static numerical simulations of slip along a fault interface characterized by multiscale heterogeneity (fractal patch model) are carried out under the assumption that the characteristic distance in the slip-dependent frictional law is scale ...
