An airline must cover each flight leg with a full complement of cabin crew in a manner consistent with safety regulations and award requirements. Methods are investigated for solving the set partitioning and covering problem.

Non-Linear Dynamics of Simple Elastic Systems Undergoing Friction-Ruled Stick–Slip Motions
The stick–slip phenomenon is a jerking motion that can occur while two objects slide over each other with friction. There are several situations in which this phenomenon can be observed: between the slabs of the friction dampers used to mitigate vibrations in buildings, as well as between the components of the base isolation systems used for seismic ...

Abstract We investigated the microstructurally small fatigue crack growth (FCG) in a fully laminated Ti-6Al-4V alloy. Basal slip only causes Mode II FCG, which is the predominant FCG mechanism in the present alloy. However, when the basal plane was aligned approximately parallel to the notch/crack surface, Mode I or II FCG was activated by pyramidal ...

Microstructure Evolution of a VMnFeCoNi High‐Entropy Alloy After Synthesis, Swaging, and Annealing
The synthesis and processing (rotary swaging and annealing) of the novel VMnFeCoNi alloy is investigated, alongside the estimation of the grain size effect on hardness. Analysis of a wide grain size range of recrystallized microstructures (12–210 µm) reveals a low annealing twin density.

Enforcement of Forum-Selection Clauses in Federal Court After \u3cem\u3eAtlantic Marine\u3c/em\u3e [PDF]
Forum-selection clauses are important agreements that limit exposure to risk of litigation in an undesired locale. The enforcement of forum-selection clauses in the U.S.

Abstract Methods for simulating the mechanics of debonding and predicting global load-slip (P-Δ) response from local bond stress versus slip (τ-δ) relationships can vary significantly in their complexity. It is generally accepted that an adequate representation of intermediate crack debonding can be achieved by considering only mode-II (shear ...

Do not let thermal drift and instrument artifacts deceive high‐temperature nanoindentation results. We compare classical Oliver–Pharr and automatic image recognition analyses across steels and a Ni alloy to quantify these effects. Accounting for artifacts reveals systematic softening with temperature, while Cr and Ni additions boost resistance ...

Experimental and numerical analysis of the cyclic behaviour of RC beam-column connections with plain reinforcing bars [PDF]
The information available in the literature about the cyclic behaviour of reinforced concrete elements with plain reinforcing bars is scarce. As a consequence, the influence of bar slippage in elements with plain bars is not yet comprehensively ...

A novel workflow for investigating hydride vapor phase epitaxy for GaN bulk crystal growth is proposed. It combines Design of experiments (DoE) with physical simulations of mass transport and crystal growth kinetics, serving as an intermediate step between DoE and experiments.

Each individual is guided by values that determine his behaviour. A recurrent distinction concerns the difference between applied values and final values, therefore between values concerning individual practices and values which represent real goals to ...
