Graphene nanoplatelet (0.1 wt.%) reinforcement significantly enhances the performance of β Ti‐28Nb‐35.4Zr alloy. Grain refinement, reduced water contact angle, and improved surface characteristics promote osteoblast adhesion and complete surface coverage after 7 days.

Slip identification from HR-DIC/EBSD: Incorporating Crystal Plasticity constitutive laws [PDF]
International audienceIt is well known that dislocation slip plays a major role in plastic deformation of polycrystals. Depending on the crystal’s symmetry, only a limited number of Slip Systems (SSs) are possible, and their activities depend on the ...

This study shows that superalloys used in aircraft engine disks become much more prone to deformation at high temperatures if they have been strained during manufacturing. This effect increases with the level of prior strain but eventually reaches a limit.

The Elasticity of Derived Demand, FactorSubstitution and Product Demand: Corrections to Hicks’ Formula and Marshall’s Four Rules [PDF]
Nearly 75 years ago, John Hicks introduced and formalized the concept of the elasticity of substitution between capital and labour and its relation to derived demand.

Composite Ti–6Al–4V–epoxy lattice structures are additively manufactured and epoxy infiltrated for cyclic loading. At low lattice volume fractions, hybridization produces synergistic gains in stiffness and energy dissipation. At higher volume fractions, synergy diminishes, although composites still exceed metallic lattices in specific energy ...

A Dislocation Perspective on Strength and Toughness in Ceramics
Dislocations in ceramics enjoy a long but yet under‐appreciated history. The three research waves for dislocations in ceramics highlight the topic evolution over the last 90 years. This review focuses on the impact of dislocation on strength and toughness in ceramics.

The mere use of the terms ‘globalization’ and ‘global law’ is ripe with dangers, as if often causes the academic debate to slip towards the all too simple question of how much global law there really is.

Embedded Reinforcement and Bond-Slip in the Nonlinear Finite Element Modelling of Reinforced Concrete [PDF]
This thesis concentrates on the nonlinear finite element modelling of two dimensional reinforced concrete structures including bond-slip effects. It deals with three aspects of the numerical computation, i. e. modelling techniques, material behaviour and
