Effects of nip roller on wound roll stress distribution and friction forces (Simulation of winding process considering web wrapping around nip roller)

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2016
How a wound roll stress distribution will change when a nip roller is used during winding, and how a wrap angle around the nip roller will affect the roll stress distribution, these are investigated by simulating a winding process of two-dimensional ...

Slippage Features [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In this report, we present a novel feature detection technique for unstructured point clouds. We introduce a generalized concept of geometric features that detects locally uniquely identifiable keypoints as centroids of area with locally minimal slippage.

High‐Temperature Nanoindentation of Metals: Assessing Thermal Drift, Frame Compliance, and Chemical Composition Effects on the Reported Mechanical Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Do not let thermal drift and instrument artifacts deceive high‐temperature nanoindentation results. We compare classical Oliver–Pharr and automatic image recognition analyses across steels and a Ni alloy to quantify these effects. Accounting for artifacts reveals systematic softening with temperature, while Cr and Ni additions boost resistance ...

Wetting, roughness and flow boundary conditions

open access: yes, 2011
We discuss how the wettability and roughness of a solid impacts its hydrodynamic properties. We see in particular that hydrophobic slippage can be dramatically affected by the presence of roughness. Owing to the development of refined methods for setting

Creep Properties and Deformation Mechanism of Additively Manufactured NiAl‐CrMo Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additively manufactured NiAl‐CrMo composites contain numerous interfaces and cell boundaries that control their creep response. At 700°C under high applied stress, creep is dominated by dislocation‐controlled power‐law mechanisms. At 800°C–900°C and lower stresses, creep is primarily diffusion‐controlled along cell boundaries.

Injection-suction control for Navier-Stokes equations with slippage [PDF]

open access: yes, 1956
We consider a velocity tracking problem for the Navier-Stokes equations in a 2D-bounded domain. The control acts on the boundary through a injection-suction device and the flow is allowed to slip against the surface wall.

Workflow for Design of Experiments‐Based Modeling of Species Transport and Growth Kinetics in GaN Hydride Vapor Phase Epitaxy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A novel workflow for investigating hydride vapor phase epitaxy for GaN bulk crystal growth is proposed. It combines Design of experiments (DoE) with physical simulations of mass transport and crystal growth kinetics, serving as an intermediate step between DoE and experiments.

On Sucker Rod Pump Systems with Data Analysis

open access: yesApplied Mechanics
A sucker rod pump is an artificial lift system widely used in oil wells to extract crude oil from deep underground. Due to the clearance between the barrel and the pump plunger, a phenomenon termed slippage occurs in which the annulus column of oil ...

Enhanced Strength and Corrosion Resistance of Ti‐13Nb‐12Ta‐10Zr‐4Sn Alloy by Aging Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work systematically investigates the effect of aging treatment on mechanical properties and corrosion behavior of vacuum arc‐melted Ti‐13Nb‐12Ta‐10Zr‐4Sn alloy. Owing to the increased α″ martensite, strength and corrosion resistance were significantly enhanced by aging treatment.
