Experimental investigation on slip conditions during thread rolling with flat dies

open access: yesFriction, 2023
The process design of flat die rolling operations can be a tedious and costly process due to the challenges posed by small process windows. Within this work, an effort is made to closely investigate and understand the process limits caused by excessive ...

Optimal Design of Steppers in Single Step High Pressure Torsion (SIHPT) Process as a Novel SPD Method [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Advanced Design and Manufacturing Technology, 2019
Single Step High Pressure Torsion (SIHPT) is a newly developed HPT based method for processing of materials which is capable of producing nanostructured long samples with characteristics comparable to conventional HPT process. While, conventional HPT can

Towards Defect Phase Diagrams: From Research Data Management to Automated Workflows

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A research data management infrastructure is presented for the systematic integration of heterogeneous experimental and simulation data required for defect phase diagrams. The approach combines openBIS with a companion application for large‐object storage, automated metadata extraction, provenance tracking and federated data access, thereby supporting ...

Nonlinear Slippage of Tensile Armor Layers of Unbonded Flexible Riser Subjected to Irregular Loads

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
The unbonded flexible riser has been increasingly applied in the ocean engineering industry to transport oil and gas resources from the seabed to offshore platforms. The slippage of helical layers, especially the tensile armor layers of unbonded flexible

Tackling Slippage [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
This issue of Frontiers of CLTS explores current thinking and practice on the topic of tackling slippage of open defecation free (ODF) status. It looks at how slippage is defined and identified, and at different patterns of slippage that are seen after ODF is declared. Although a considerable amount has been written on how to establish strong Community-

Multifunctional Crushing and Piezoresistive Self‐Sensing in Conductive Epoxy/CNT‐Coated Polyetherimide TPMS Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study reports lightweight polyetherimide triply periodic minimal surfaces lattices coated with carbon nanotube‐reinforced epoxy that combine mechanical robustness with self‐sensing. The conformal coating enhances stiffness, strength and energy absorption while enabling reliable strain monitoring.

Vapor deposition process provides new method for fabricating high temperature thermocouples [PDF]

open access: yes, 1967
Fabrication techniques for high temperature thermocouples bind all components so that differential thermal expansion and contraction do not result in mechanical slippage and localized stress concentrations.

Numerical Modeling of Tank Cars Carrying Hazardous Materials With and Without Composite Metal Foam

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Large‐scale puncture models consisting of hazardous materials (HAZMATs) tank car with protective steel–steel composite metal foam (S–S CMF) are solved numerically. Tank car plate with added 10.91–13.33 mm thick S–S CMF layer does not puncture. Protective S–S CMF absorbs impact energy, reduces plate deformation, and prevents shear bands formation ...

Rafting of Ni‐Based Superalloys Under Multiaxial Load as Understood by Phase‐Field Simulations and Critical Experiments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Phase‐field simulations coupled with dislocation‐density‐based crystal plasticity modeling reproduce γ′ rafting behavior in single‐crystal Ni‐based superalloys under varied loading conditions. The model captures both macroscopic creep and microscopic morphology evolution, with results matching high‐temperature creep experiments.
