Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Comparison of 3 surveys for estimating forest grouse population trends

open access: yesWildlife Society Bulletin, 2015
Biologists in Oregon, USA, have routinely collected information on forest grouse populations over a 31‐year period (1981–2011) by 3 methods; however, it is unknown how well these methods detected variation in forest grouse abundance over time.

Monitoring and prediction spatiotemporal vegetation changes using NDVI index and CA-Markov model (case study: Kermanshah city) [PDF]

open access: yesعلوم محیطی, 2020
Introduction: Monitoring and evaluation of land surface condition is one of the basic needs in investigating the changes occurring at different levels, including global, regional and local, which include environmental changes.

Measurement of surface roughness slope [PDF]

open access: yes, 1970
Instrument, consisting of isolator, differentiator, absolute value circuit, and integrator, uses output signal from surface texture analyzer profile-amplifier to calculate surface roughness slope. Calculations provide accurate, instantaneous value of the

Numerical Hermitian Yang-Mills Connections and Kahler Cone Substructure [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We further develop the numerical algorithm for computing the gauge connection of slope-stable holomorphic vector bundles on Calabi-Yau manifolds. In particular, recent work on the generalized Donaldson algorithm is extended to bundles with Kahler cone ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Aerial survey and telemetry data analysis of a peripheral caribou calving area in northwestern Alaska

open access: yesRangifer, 2019
With industrial development expanding in the Arctic, there is increasing interest in quantifying the impacts of development projects on barren ground caribou (Rangifer tarandus granti).

An ice-binding protein from an Arctic grass, Leymus mollis [version 1; peer review: 2 approved]

open access: yesF1000Research, 2020
Several cold-hardy grasses have been shown to have ice-binding proteins (IBPs) that protect against freeze-thaw injury. Here, we looked for IBP activity in an Alaskan coastal grass that had not previously been examined, Leymus mollis (Pooidae).

Comment on Esbensen, Bertsch and Snover Concerning Reconciling Coulomb Dissociation and Radiative Capture Measurements

open access: yes, 2006
The RIKEN data on the Coulomb Dissociation (CD) of 8B were shown to be in good agreement with the Direct Capture (DC) data on the 7Be(p,g)8B reaction (that were known at that time) of Filippone {\em et al.} Yet recently it was claimed that the RIKEN2 CD ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).
