Postbuckling slope of beams with finite aspect ratio

open access: yes, 2014
Buckling of slender rods is well described by Euler’s 1D elastica, which predicts a universal value of 1/2 for the postbuckling slope, S, of the force-compression curve.

Distribution of Picea abies-Containing Forest Stands in Silver Fir Forest Types of Ivano-Frankivsk Region

open access: yesНаукові праці Лісівничої академії наук України
Picea abies (L.) Karst. is a promising tree species for cultivation in silver-fir forests and fairly fertile silver-fir forest types over a limited period of time with the aim of obtaining substantial volumes of timber—exceeding those achieved under ...

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

Influence of slope aspect on the microbial properties of rhizospheric and non-rhizospheric soils on the Loess Plateau, China [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Slope aspect is an important topographic factor in the micro-ecosystem environment, but its effect on the microbial properties of grassland rhizospheric soil (RS) and non-rhizospheric soil (NRS) remain unclear.

A Workflow to Accelerate Microstructure‐Sensitive Fatigue Life Predictions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a workflow to accelerate predictions of microstructure‐sensitive fatigue life. Results from frameworks with varying levels of simplification are benchmarked against published reference results. The analysis reveals a trade‐off between accuracy and model complexity, offering researchers a practical guide for selecting the optimal ...

Effects of vegetation and slope aspect on water budget in the hill and gully region of the Loess Plateau of China

open access: yes, 2011
Precipitation, throughfall, stemflow and soil water content were measured, and interception, transpiration, evaporation, runoff, deep percolation and soil water recharge were estimated in the natural Liaotung Oak (Quercus liaotungensis) and regrown Black

Short-Term Vegetation Recovery after a Grassland Fire in Lithuania : The Effects of Fire Severity, Slope Position and Aspect

open access: yes, 2016
In Lithuania, fire is frequently used by farmers as a tool to remove dry grass, improve soil nutrient status and help soil tilling. However, little is known about the ecological impacts of these fires, including vegetation recovery. The objective of this

Bare sand, wind speed, aspect and slope at four English and Welsh coastal sand dunes, 2014-2016

open access: yes, 2022
This data contains values of bare sand area, modelled wind speed, aspect and slope at a 2.5 m spatial resolution for four UK coastal dune fields, Abberfraw (Wales), Ainsdale (England), Morfa Dyffryn (Wales), Penhale (England).

Elucidating the role of vegetation in the initiation of rainfall‐induced shallow landslides: Insights from an extreme rainfall event in the Colorado Front Range

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2016
More than 1100 debris flows were mobilized from shallow landslides during a rainstorm from 9 to 13 September 2013 in the Colorado Front Range, with the vast majority initiating on sparsely vegetated, south facing terrain.

Microstructural Evolution and Vacancy Defect Formation in Mn–Mo–Ni RPV Steel Under Low Cycle Fatigue: Insights From EBSD and PALS

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐cycle fatigue damage in Mn–Mo–Ni reactor pressure vessel steel is examined using a combined electron backscatter diffraction and positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy approach. The study correlates texture evolution, dislocation substructure development, and vacancy‐type defect formation across uniform, necked, and fracture regions, providing
