Spatial distribution of soil depth in relation to slope as a consequence of erosion-accumulation processes in loess lowland hills of Slovakia

open access: yesFolia Oecologica
In our study, we examined the influence of slope gradient on erosion processes and present soil formation and change on loess hills. We analysed data from the two study areas and found that slope gradient is a significant factor influencing soil depth as

Effects of Slope Gradient and Rainfall Intensity on Sediment Yield in the Colluvial Deposits of Southern Guangxi Under Simulated Rainfall

open access: yesShuitu Baochi Xuebao
[Objective] To reveal the influences of slope gradient and rainfall intensity on the erosion and sediment yield characteristics of the colluvial deposits from Benggang, and to provide a scientific basis for soil and water loss prediction and control of ...

Combined effect of land use/cover types and slope gradient in sediment and nutrient losses in Chancho and Sorga sub watersheds, East Wollega Zone, Oromia, Ethiopia

open access: yesEnvironmental Systems Research, 2019
Background The use of existing land use/cover type exerts more pressure on the natural dynamism of the watersheds and hydrology due to continued cultivation and mis-management of land resource.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Full surface strain measurement using shearography [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Shearography is a full-field optical technique usually used for the determination of surface strain. Correlation of interferometric speckle patterns recorded before and after the object deformation yields fringes sensitive to displacement gradient ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Sediment transport by runoff on debris-mantled dryland hillslopes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Hillslopes supply sediment to river channels, and therefore impact drainage basin functioning and evolution. The relationship between hillslope attributes and sediment flux forms the basis of geomorphic transport laws used to model the long-term ...

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Role of the gradient slope during the product internal recycling for the multicolumn countercurrent solvent gradient purification of PEGylated proteins

open access: yes, 2023
Protein PEGylation, i.e. functionalization with poly(ethylene glycol) chains, has been demonstrated an ef-ficient way to improve the therapeutic index of these biopharmaceuticals.
