Testing Lorentz invariance violations in the tritium beta-decay anomaly [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
We consider a Lorentz non-invariant dispersion relation for the neutrino, which would produce unexpected effects with neutrinos of few eV, exactly where the tritium beta-decay anomaly is found.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Freeze-Thaw Effects on Stability of Open Pit Slope in High-Altitude and Cold Regions

open access: yesGeofluids, 2021
The cycle of the freeze-thaw action must be taken into account in the stability analysis of an open pit slope in the high-altitude and cold regions, because the natural process of freeze-thaw poses a significant effect on mechanical properties of the ...

Rock Slope Stability Of Ponorogo - Pacitan Road Km 232.5 Using Rock Mass Rating (Rmr) And Rocplane Software

open access: yesRekayasa Sipil, 2021
Geological structures and discontinuities in the rock are weak areas and groundwater infiltration pathways. The existence of geological structures and discontinuities will reduce the level of rock shear strength and the main implication is to increase ...

Dwarf galaxies in the Dynamically Evolved NGC 1407 Group

open access: yes, 2006
The NGC 1407 Group stands out among nearby structures by its properties that suggest it is massive and evolved. It shares properties with entities that have been called fossil groups: the 1.4 magnitude differential between the dominant elliptical galaxy ...

Anabranching and maximum flow efficiency in Magela Creek, northern Australia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Anabranching is the prevailing river pattern found along alluvial tracts of the world's largest rivers. Hydraulic geometry and bed material discharge are compared between single channel and anabranching reaches up to 4 times bank-full discharge in Magela

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Evaluation of slope stability through rock mass classification and kinematic analysis of some major slopes along NH-1A from Ramban to Banihal, North Western Himalayas

open access: yesJournal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering
The network of Himalayan roadways and highways connects some remote regions of valleys or hill slopes, which is vital for India's socio-economic growth.
