Sloshing cargo in silo vehicles
Journal of Mechanical Science and Technology, 2009The driving stability of silo vehicles is significantly affected by the type of cargo that is transported and the design of the tank. Cargo motion can have both beneficial and negative aspects in terms of driving stability and braking performance. Neglecting the influence of the dynamically moving cargo in driving simulations of silo vehicles leads to ...

Update on SPHERES-Slosh for Acquisition of Liquid Slosh Data aboard the ISS
49th AIAA/ASME/SAE/ASEE Joint Propulsion Conference, 2013A current problem that severely affects the performance of spacecraft is related to slosh dynamics in liquid propellant tanks under microgravity conditions. The confidence in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) predictions are low because of the lack of benchmark against experimental data.

Nonlinear sloshing in zero gravity
Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 2002We study the effect of a time-periodic, lateral acceleration on the two-dimensional flow of a fluid with a free surface subject to surface tension, confined between two plane, parallel walls under conditions of zero gravity. We assume that the velocity of each contact line is a prescribed, single-valued function of the dynamic contact angle between

On the Sloshing of Liquid in a Flexible Tank
Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1958Abstract The kinetic and potential energies of an incompressible fluid having a free surface in a cylindrical tank subjected to translation, rotation, and simple bending are derived in the forms 1 2 ∑ i ∑ j m i j q . i q . j and 1 2 ∑ i ∑ j k i j q i q j where the qi (t) are generalized co-ordinates.

Sloshing-Coupled Ship Motion Algorithm for Estimation of Slosh-Induced Pressures
Journal of Marine Science and Application, 2018The effect of coupling between sloshing and ship motions in the evaluation of slosh-induced interior pressures is studied. The coupling between sloshing loads and ship motions is modelled through a hybrid algorithm which combines a potential flow solution based on transient Green function for the external ship hydrodynamics with a viscous flow solution

On the piston and sloshing modes in moonpools
Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 2001So-called moonpools are vertical openings through the deck and hull of ships or barges, used for marine and offshore operations, such as pipe laying or recovery of drivers. In the present study, the author considers rectangular moonpools of large horizontal dimension.

The Sloshing Motion of Cross‐Waves
Studies in Applied Mathematics, 1995Cross-waves are standing waves whose crests are perpendicular to the wavemaker, and they were first observed by Michael Faraday in 1831. The general phenomena of cross-waves is investigated in this paper using a multiple-scale perturbation method, and some numerical results are presented.

The ISS SPHERES-Slosh Experiment: Slosh Data Acquisition and Analysis
Journal of Spacecraft and RocketsAccurate prediction of liquid propellant slosh coupled with rocket launch vehicle or spacecraft dynamics requires computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models validated with long-duration, low-gravity slosh data. In a low-gravity environment, space vehicle disturbances, such as residual accelerations, orbital maneuvers, and docking, can induce propellant ...
