Slow Light Imaging Spectroscopy
AIAA Scitech 2020 Forum, 2020Disclosed is a process and device that enables ultra-high resolution one- and two-dimensional spatial imaging of Rayleigh, Raman and Thomson spectral features without the need for a spectrometer. The disclosed approach provides the capability for imaging of a single spectral feature such as a single rotational Raman line and the simultaneous ...

Slow-Light Fourier Transform Interferometer
Physical Review Letters, 2007We describe a new type of Fourier transform (FT) interferometer in which the tunable optical delay between the two arms is realized by using a continuously variable slow-light medium instead of a moving arm as in a conventional setup. The spectral resolution of such a FT interferometer exceeds that of a conventional setup of comparable size by a factor

Slow-light in semiconductor quantum wells
Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics/International Quantum Electronics Conference and Photonic Applications Systems Technologies, 2004We demonstrate slow light via population oscillation in semiconductor quantum-well structures for the first time. A group velocity as low as 9600 m/s is inferred from the experimentally measured dispersive characteristics. The transparency window exhibits a bandwidth as large as 2 GHz.

Pondermotive Forces with Slow Light
Physical Review Letters, 2000This work describes atomic processes which result from the greatly enhanced longitudinal gradient force which is inherent to the propagation of slow light. These processes are (1) ballistic atom motion and atom surfing, and (2) a type of local pondermotive nonlinearity or scattering which results from free-particle sinusoidal motion and the density ...
