Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.

Air‐gap field prediction in tubular doubly sided surface magnet machine using Bessel–Fourier series

open access: yesIET Electric Power Applications
2‐D air‐gap magnetic field distribution is the essential prerequisite of electrical machine analysis. Because of the natural periodicity of rotary machines, Fourier analysis is a suitable choice for air‐gap field prediction.

A Wave Drift Force Model for Semi-Submersible Types of Floating Wind Turbines in Large Waves and Current

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
The correct prediction of slowly varying wave drift loads is important for the mooring analysis of floating wind turbines (FWTs). However, present design analysis tools fail to correctly predict these loads in conditions with current and moderate and ...

Measure of non-compactness and limiting interpolation with slowly varying functions

open access: yesBanach Journal of Mathematical Analysis
AbstractWe give estimates for the measure of non-compactness of an operator interpolated by the limiting methods involving slowly varying functions. As applications we establish estimates for the measure of non-compactness of operators acting between Lorentz–Karamata spaces.

Pioglitazone plus (−)‐epigallocatechin gallate: a novel approach to enhance osteogenic performance in aged bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Aged human bmMSCs are seeded in the scaffold. Osteoblastic induction can slightly increase cell's bone‐forming activity to produce bone‐like tissues, shown as the sporadic xylenol orange‐stained spots (the lower left image). Notably, pioglitazone plus EGCG co‐treatment dramatically increases cell's bone‐forming activity and bone‐like tissue production (

The Factor-Spline-GARCH Model for High and Low Frequency Correlations [PDF]

open access: yes
We propose a new approach to model high and low frequency components of equity correlations. Our framework combines a factor asset pricing structure with other specifications capturing dynamic properties of volatilities and covariances between a single ...

dUTPase is essential in zebrafish development and possesses several single‐nucleotide variants with pronounced structural and functional consequences

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
dUTPases are involved in balancing the appropriate nucleotide pools. We showed that dUTPase is essential for normal development in zebrafish. The different zebrafish genomes contain several single‐nucleotide variations (SNPs) of the dut gene. One of the dUTPase variants displayed drastically lower protein stability and catalytic efficiency as compared ...

C2α‐carbanion‐protonating glutamate discloses tradeoffs between substrate accommodation and reaction rate in actinobacterial 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Enzymes of the 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase group catalyze the condensation of formyl‐CoA with aldehydes or ketones. Thus, by structural adaptation of active sites, practically any pharmaceutically and industrially important 2‐hydroxyacid could be biotechnologically synthesized. Combining crystal structure analysis, active site mutations and kinetic assays,

Correlation functions of weakly inhomogeneous plasma

open access: yesҚарағанды университетінің хабаршысы. Физика сериясы
This article focuses on the kinetic theory of inhomogeneous plasma and explores the interaction between a high-frequency electric field and weakly inhomogeneous plasma.

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.
