Automated supervised classification of variable stars I. Methodology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The fast classification of new variable stars is an important step in making them available for further research. Selection of science targets from large databases is much more efficient if they have been classified first.

Modeling Investigation of Potential Sea Level Rise Effect on Hydrodynamics and Sediment Transport in Hyères Bay, France

open access: yesJournal of Eta Maritime Science
Global climate change increases storm frequency and Sea Level Rise (SLR). This leads to an increased risk of coastal flooding, reduced effectiveness of protective structures, and intensified coastal erosion and retreat.

The Comparison of Iliotibial Band Length and Q Angle in Athletes with and without Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome [PDF]

open access: yesSport Sciences and Health Research, 2011
Patellofemoral pain syndrome accounts for 25%-40% of all knee problems observed in sport medical centers. The purpose of this study was to compare muscle flexibility of lower extremity in athletes with and without patellofemoral pain syndrome.

Oxygen Supply of Islets of Langerhans by Photosynthetically Active Microalgae in Bioprinted Co‐Cultures Maintains Their Function in a Hypoxic Environment

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study developed a bioprinted co‐culture system embedding rat pancreatic islets and Scenedesmus sp. microalgae spatially defined in close vicinity. Red light was found optimal to ensure microalgal photosynthesis while maintaining islet viability and functionality. A tailored co‐culture medium supported both cell types.

Disorder‐Driven Fast Na+ Transport: From Crystalline to Amorphous Networks in the Mixed‐Anion NaTaOxCl6−2x Oxychlorides

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
Oxygen substitution in NaTaOxCl6‐2x drives structural evolution from isolated [TaCl6]– octahedra, through oxygen‐bridged [Ta2OCl10]2– dimers, toward extended trans‐[TaO2Cl4]3– chain‐like arrangements. At intermediate compositions, zero‐dimensional corner‐sharing motifs are proposed to create a flexible, disordered framework that peaks ionic ...
