Automation of Surgical Workflow Recognition: Unveiling the Surgical Instrument Kinematics that Underly Robot‐Assisted Prostatectomy Procedures

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
Automated procedural analysis is recognized as one of the major game changers for robotic surgery. Meaning digital analysis needs to replace the manual assessments that set todays standard. Mechanical robotic‐instrument tracking enables the derivation of quantitative kinematic metrics that support behavior‐based workflow segmentation into distinct ...

Adaptive Control of Run‐and‐Tumble Escape in Pursuit‐Evasion Dynamics of Intelligent Active Particles

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
The pursuit‐evasion game is studied for two adversarial active agents, modeled as deterministic self‐steering pursuer and stochastic, cognitive evader. For a successful evasion strategy, the motile target has to exploit all available pursuer information, e.g., by tuning the tumbling frequency with the pursuer distance.

Automatic measurement of slug flow processes from in‐line videos

open access: yesIET Image Processing
Slug flow processes draw much attention in chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturing thanks to their ability to eliminate downtime costs and batch‐to‐batch variation. Using in‐line video can monitor the current process status and improve the stability of
